Comments: Our POOMA yesterday, Carnegie Prince, was off the bit well before the corner and had to be ridden hard to pick up and get 2nd. He's by Carnegie and is clearly looking for more ground. The two I mentioned at Perth from a 40% system duly saluted. Campo Di Grano showed them a clean pair of heels and was in front until the 1002m mark so it was lucky it was only a 1000m race. He will be hard to place, as he looks to have no scope. In stark contrast, Westerly Breeze settled off the pace, as suggested she would, and went whoosh in the straight. She's up to much better. The run of the 2nd horse in that, Chachi, having his first start was notable and he shouldn't be far from his Maiden. I had to remind myself why that system didn't make the cut for the POOMAs, which was because it has so few selections - less than one per week - but it does have a 21/51 live record at 24% POT. I'll refer to it in future as "that last start winner in 7 days" system. Today's POOMAs come from my 2YO system and they look like strong chances. Geelong 1-5 Apple Crumble ran home OK behind a $12 winning POOMA last time (from the same system, as it happens) and will be good value in the small field with Rich Forever likely to start $1.60 or so. Coffs Harbour 3-5 Heavenly Glow won nicely at Taree last time though I'd have to say that if one of the first starters can gallop a bit then it must be a chance. Canterbury 3-1 Miss Hijinx comes out of a couple of very strong races behind Danehill Smile, beaten less than 4L each time, and she must be a strong chance tonight.
