SELECTIONS - 30 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

There are no POOMA selections today

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Queanbeyan 1-7, 9-8

Comments: Nothing to back today. It's the last day of June and end of the first six months of the year and we'll finish in front for June. Our record for each month this year is loss-win-loss-win-loss-win so on that basis we might be in for a poor July. Let's hope that we have more wins than losses in the next six months. I'll do a mid-year system review tonight and work out whether I want to make any changes.

Sunday, June 29, 2008

SELECTIONS - 29 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Coonamble 3-2 Top Beat [13]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Hamilton 3-2, 3-6, 4-13
Kalgoorlie 2-3, 4-5, 4-9, 5-6, 6-4
Mornington 4-4, 4-11
Murwillumbah 4-3, 5-4
Sunshine Coast 9-2

(* Any updates at Kalgoorlie later on *)

Comments: Coonamble 3-2 Top Beat looks pretty well placed here after his win at Dubbo. Doesn't tend to win two in a row but he's not up against any world beaters here so I expect him to just about win. Coonamble's a nice track that gives all runners their chance.

Saturday, June 28, 2008

SELECTIONS - 28 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Cheltenham 6-1 Obglo [18]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Bairnsdale 4-9, 4-16
Belmont 7-9
Cheltenham 6-7, 6-10
Flemington 6-12, 7-3
Gold Coast 2-11, 8-2
Hawkesbury 5-4
Rosehill 7-5

(* Any updates at Belmont later on *)

Comments: Cheltenham 6-1 Obglo won nicely first up. Has stepped up in trip second up at his last two goes but sticks to the same-ish distance here today so Leon Macdonald has obviously chosen to keep him fresh. Drops in grade and jumps to 60kg but should be a fair chance again.

Friday, June 27, 2008

SELECTIONS - 27 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

There are no POOMA selection today

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Geelong 6-9
Goulburn 6-6
Port Macquarie 1-3, 9-13

Comments: Nothing to see here today. Move along.

Thursday, June 26, 2008

SELECTIONS - 26 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Ballarat 6-10 Command Prince [13]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Ballarat 3-2
Northam 9-6
Rockhampton 4-7

(* Any updates at Northam later on *)

Comments: Ballarat 6-10 Command Prince is a horse on the up that looks well suited in this race. Has won his last two in RB68 company. Rises to RB78 but drops in weight and I reckon he'll just about win (assuming the heavy track is playing fair).

Black Book: Two placings yesterday returning $4 and $1.50 so that was OK but I've removed them both from the BB, as we won't see any value in them any more.

Tuesday, June 24, 2008

SELECTIONS - 24 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Belmont 2-1 Pango [18]
Belmont 6-1 Transaction [18]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Belmont 5-3
Sandown 6-1, 7-1, 8-2, 8-5

(* Any updates at Belmont later on *)

Comments: Belmont 2-1 Pango was a nice winner first up from a spell. Steps up in trip and 4kg in weight so I'd want around $3.50 but she's obviously improved and this isn't much of a field. Belmont 6-1 Transaction has two nice wins at her last couple of runs the latest when leading throughout over 1300m. Will race handy and stays in the same grade so should go pretty close.

Black Book: Belmont 7-8 Elliotto is in the black book to follow until he's had 10 runs. We're slightly ahead after 4 runs for us so far. Looks well up to this and I expect a good run. Eagle Farm 4-9 La Marianne was heavily supported at her only run at the Sunshine Coast but ran around like a duck on Luke Dittman who was still a 4kg apprentice and ran 4th. She really should have won. Gets a senior jockey here and I'll be looking for her to go close.

Monday, June 23, 2008

SELECTIONS - 23 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

There are no POOMA selections today

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Muswellbrook 1-4
Townsville 3-1, 5-4

Comments: Another shocking looking day with Townsville race 6 being the only one to hold any interest and only because Sea Zulu is running around with 62kg after the 2kg claim. He's back to 1000m, which is not his best distance these days while it is for Prince Of Steel. Should be a great clash.

Sunday, June 22, 2008

SELECTIONS - 22 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Cranbourne 6-4 Inkwell [19]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Cranbourne 5-13, 9-2
Hobart 9-6
Kalgoorlie 7-5
Tamworth 3-13, 4-5, 4-6, 5-1, 7-2

(* Any updates at Kalgoorlie later on *)

Comments: 2/2 yesterday though they were both short enough. For the second time ever I declared that a horse will win and it did so, easily, at Toowoomba with Kneel And Raise doing the job at a handy $2. Cranbourne 6-4 Inkwell is going to go around near odds on, which for a horse stepping from a Maiden to Class 1 and going from country to provincial grade is too short for my liking. That said, he's not up against world beaters so should run well.

Saturday, June 21, 2008

SELECTIONS - 21 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Belmont 6-1 Amici [18]
Toowoomba 2-1 Kneel And Raise [8,19]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Belmont 8-11
Eagle Farm 1-8, 5-8, 8-2
Toowoomba 3-5, 5-2

(* Any updates at Belmont later on *)

Comments: It does not look like much of a day what with all of the wet tracks in the east. Be very careful with your selections. Belmont 6-1 Amici blew them away last run. Rises in grade and distance but with Pike to ride he should just about get home again. Toowoomba 2-1 Kneel And Raise has drawn wide but that will simply lengthen the price. Will win.

Black Book: Belmont 7-3 Chachi got caught late over this course last time out. This probably isn't as hard so he should go close. Eagle Farm 1-3 Decerto got home narrowly for us first up at Ipswich on a bog track two weeks ago. Has drawn wide here and has Colless on board but I'd be very careful about taking anything less than $3. Eagle Farm 7-7 Vormista gets her chance to open her account this preparation. Has drawn perfectly and has the in form Holder to ride so I expect her to win.

Friday, June 20, 2008

SELECTIONS - 20 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

There are no POOMA selections today

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Bendigo 5-13
Canberra 5-6

Comments: Another nothing day today but it'll be interesting to see how Stavka runs in Bendigo race 7. It's a pity that this galloper has only had 5 runs, as he is a fantastically talented horse that we haven't seen anywhere the best of. He resumes from a 600 day break and if his wonky legs are OK then he might give them all a fright.

Thursday, June 19, 2008

SELECTIONS - 19 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

There are no POOMA selections today

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Port Augusta 2-1
Wyong 6-7
Mackay 7-2

Comments: Not much of a day to have a go so I suggest saving your money for a better day.

Wednesday, June 18, 2008

SELECTIONS - 18 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Belmont 2-1 Arcadia [8]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Belmont 2-6
Doomben 2-1
Sandown 1-3, 4-5, 5-6
Strathalbyn 8-5

(* Any updates at Belmont later on *)

Comments: Belmont 2-1 Arcadia ran OK for 2nd at his first start since moving west. He's going to be short but doesn't look like he's up against any stars so should go close at around $2.

Black Book: Sandown 6-12 Dr Generosity went into the black book after his last run so we could have a bit of a look at how well he's placed next up. He ran OK first up before never getting a crack at them last time and going to the post hard held in 7th spot. Is up in grade but the step up in trip and drop in weight will help so I'm happy to go e/w at big odds.

Tuesday, June 17, 2008

SELECTIONS - 17 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Townsville 4-10 Sunny Will [7]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Ballina 2-9, 8-10
Moe 2-11
Townsville 3-3, 5-3, 5-9, 7-1

Comments: Townsville 4-10 Sunny Will won at out of town Einasleigh and then came to Townsville for a strong Class 1 win over this course last time. Was well in the market that day so people knew what they were doing but he will need to have improved to take this out.

Monday, June 16, 2008

SELECTIONS - 16 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

There are no POOMA selections today

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Geelong 4-11, 7-8, 9-5
Gunnedah 3-13, 7-1

Comments: I'm having trouble connecting to the PC set up with my racing software so as soon as that's resolved I'll do an update. UPDATE: No POOMAs today.

Saturday, June 14, 2008

SELECTIONS - 15 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Hobart 9-7 Courtly Diva [10]
Port Macquare 3-1 Admiral Nediym [19]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Ballarat 2-6, 3-9, 8-2, 8-7
Hobart 7-9, 8-2
Kalgoorlie 3-6, 5-6
Port Macquarie 1-12, 3-9, 6-2, 6-6, 6-9
Sunshine Coast 2-3, 7-3
Warrnambool 5-7, 7-4
Wellington 9-9, 9-12

(* Any updates at Kalgoorlie later on *)

Comments: Hobart 9-7 Courtly Diva has an uninspiring 1/15 winning record. Unbelievaby, she went out as an 8/11 favourite three starts back when 12th of 16. People have no respect for money. That said, if she runs up to her best then she's a chance. Port Macquarie 3-1 Admiral Nediym has a 232232 record Has drawn nicely and Quinnell is riding well enough but I'd still want a price of around $5, as there are a few with talent in the field.

Friday, June 13, 2008

SELECTIONS - 14 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Belmont 5-1 La Souer Noir [18]
Kembla Grange 9-5 Jive Rock [10]
Ipwsich 2-3 Cap Riviera [13]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Belmont 2-5, 5-3
Kembla Grange 1-2
Kilmore 6-7, 6-13
Randwick 2-1

(* Any updates at Belmont later on *)

Comments: Belmont 5-1 La Souer Noir used her big finish to good effect last time to come from last and score over this course last time. Drops in weight (though up a half kilo against the limit) and stays in the same class so should go well again. Kembla Grange 9-5 Jive Rock is one of those horses that annoys owners by showing enough talent to keep feeding it. This is not much of a field and the only danger looks like Spring Dane so she might have a chance but I'm not going anywhere near any price with a 2 in the front of it. Ipswich 2-3 Cap Riviera looks to be in a race he can win though the wide draw is a concern though he has Jason Holder on board and he's in good form.

Black Book: Belmont 7-2 El Presidente won nicely for us first up over 1200m and meets pretty much the same field here over 1400m. Was a length or so ahead of Marasco on the corner in that race and beat him home by nearly 4L so really should win again. If Oroya Gold runs up to his effort in that race then he can be in the finish, as well.

Thursday, June 12, 2008

SELECTIONS - 13 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Grafton 4-2 Slick Nick [6,7]
Grafton 8-9 Mercado [10]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Geelong 8-5
Grafton 6-7
Queanbeyan 7-8, 8-7
Rockhampton 3-13

Comments: We're going for 10 losses in a row today but that's still a little way behind our record of 17, which has happen twice (we've also had 4x16, 6x15, 8x14 and 15x13 losing runs in the last four years). Grafton 4-2 Slick Nick is going for 7 in a row. Only about 20% of horses go from 6 wins straight to 7 but even so he is well placed at the weights. The only query is how he'll go on a track worse than dead. Grafton 8-9 Mercado drops from three RB67 runs to an RB62 race so must have some sort of chance though I'm not sure that he's suited from the wide draw with the 4kg kid on board.

Wednesday, June 11, 2008

SELECTIONS - 12 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Gold Coast 4-2 Rublana [10]
Gold Coast 5-2 Run The Course [10]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Gold Coast 8-3
Hawkesbury 7-10
Northam 1-4, 6-2, 8-3

(* Any updates at Northam later on *)

Comments: POOMAs are on a losing streak of 8 at the moment so let's hope we can turn that around today. Gold Coast 4-2 Rublana looks a fair chance of breaking his duck today. The only problem will be the price. Gold Coast 5-2 Run The Course ran home strongly to win his Maiden over 900m last time out. In an even field he looks to have a fair chance to win again, especially with Colless on board.

Black Book: In The Shadows ran only fairly for 5th yesterday so, sadly, I have removed this terrific earner from the BB, as he seems to have found his mark and there are probably few opportunities to make money from him any more.

SELECTIONS - 11 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Canterbury 3-3 Calais Lion [9]
Doomben 6-3 More On The Toe [13]
Doomben 7-8 Unintentional [13]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Bendigo 5-3, 6-6
Canterbury 5-1
Doomben 1-5
Gawler 5-4, 6-3, 6-5, 8-5, 8-12

(* Any updates at Belmont later on *)

Comments: Canterbury 3-3 Calais Lion has won nicely at his two runs at Grafton and comes into this race pretty well after the claim, which will give him 4.5kg advantage over McClintock who looks a clear favourite. Doomben 6-3 More On The Toe plummets in grade from his OK run behind Woody 'n' Buzz here last month. Looks a genuine $2 shot though I do have a query over the More Than Ready breed on ground worse than dead. Doomben 7-8 Unintentional finally broke her duck after 19 starts two starts back and then ran a really good race at the Gold Coast behind Askew. That horse would start $1.50 in this race so she must have a fair chance even if she does drop in distance.

Black Book: Bendigo 6-1 In The Shadows has a class advantage over these and has the weight to show for it. He'll get up on the pace and roll away from them late. The 60kg will only improve our odds.

Tuesday, June 10, 2008

SELECTIONS - 10 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

There are no POOMA selections today

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Echuca 6-3
Scone 1-1

Comments: Just a couple of meetings today and nothing really excites so keep your money for another day.

Monday, June 09, 2008

SELECTIONS - 9 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

There are no POOMA selections today

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Moonee Valley 6-1
Mortlake 8-4
Murray Bridge 8-10
Randwick 2-15
Townsville 1-10, 4-3, 7-3

(* Any updates at Belmont later on *)

Comments: Our four selections couldn't even run a place yesterday, which you wouldn't have picked given their form going into their respective races. No selections today, which is fine by me given the quality of meetings we have to choose from. It will be interesting to see whether in MV race 6 the topweight, Kaphero, can give 10kg to a decent country sprinter like Cafe Bar and get home. I expect Straight Legs to improve a lot 2nd up, as well.

Black Book: Belmont 5-8 Cagey Lady has been horribly ridden at her last two runs so I can't sack her from the black book until she's had her chance to win for us. After drawng wide at all of her runs this time in she finally gets an inside gate today and even though she'll get back a bit should have her chance at probably good odds in the small field.

Sunday, June 08, 2008

SELECTIONS - 8 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Kalgoorlie 5-1 Who Let Da Dog Out [18]
Kalgoorlie 5-5 New Addition [10]
Kalgoorlie 7-1 Ears Loppy [18]
Sunshine Coast 8-3 Jackpot [10]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Hobart 3-1, 6-1, 6-2, 7-5, 8-12
Pakenham 7-2, 8-5
Sapphire Coast 2-11
Sunshine Coast 3-11, 3-13
Swan Hill 3-4, 7-3

(* Any updates at Kalgoorlie later on *)

Comments: Kalgoorlie 5-1 Who Let Da Dog Out has struck form with wins at his last two over 1100m and 1400m. Rises in weight and drops in distance but stays in the same class so should be a fair chance of racking up a hat trick. Kalgoorlie 5-5 New Addition ran 3rd to Who Let Da Dogs Out over 1100m first up from a spell when steaming home from back in the field and then thundered home again when successful over that trip last time out. Drops in weight and steps up to 1200m so it'll be interesting to see whether she can run down the topweight. In that race Soprano Rex looks a big threat to the two POOMA selections. Kalgoorlie 7-1 Ears Loppy finally won another race when an easy winner last time over 1774m at this track. It's hard to get too enthusiastic about horses that haven't won for a while making it two in a row but as we saw with yesterday's selection at Tamworth, Miss Nidan, it can be done because they get to stay in the same class. Sunshine Coast 8-3 Jackpot has been a money pit for punters for most of his career and when he did win a race it was at short odds. It's hard to see how he beats home Onshuldig on weights and margins but maybe he's needed a couple of runs to get him to his peak this time in. Anything less than about $6 is poor value and that's probably a likely outcome so I won't be backing him.

Black Book: Swan Hill 4-5 Samadji is on his last chance as a black booker. If he can't beat home Snappy Tom with a 7kg weight advantage then he's no hope of winning many races again.

Saturday, June 07, 2008

SELECTIONS - 7 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Belmont 8-1 Vizard [18]
Tamworth 6-1 Miss Nidan [7]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Belmont 2-1, 4-8, 4-10, 8-4
Cheltenham 7-4
Eagle Farm 1-5
Flemington 8-6
Gold Coast 8-4
Newcastle 5-3, 8-1, 8-11
Randwick 7-2
Tamworth 1-8
Toowoomba 1-4

(* Any updates at Belmont later on *)

Comments: Belmont 8-1 Vizard made it 6 in a row, a feat only accomplished in recent years by a few gallopers such as Here De Angels, Lucky Secret, Minson, Augusta Proud and Hot Danish. Drops in weight after the claim and there's no reason he can't make in 7 - apart from the fact that he's up against a black booker. Tamworth 6-1 Miss Nidan hadn't won for yonks before scoring comfortably over this course last time at 14/1. If she runs up to that effort she can win again.

Black Book: Belmont 6-1 Second Omen is on her last chance as a black booker. She normally comes to hand quickly and has run well in better grade than this so if she doesn't win then she's out. Belmont 8-3 Chachi won for us comfortably first up from a spell. Goes well 2nd up and even though he has a wide draw should be able to take up a forward position and fight the race out with the POOMA selection. Eagle Farm 4-3 Azzaland was a tad disappointing in his first try in city company after winning his first 5 starts even though he wasn't beaten far and it was his first attempt past 1000m. Has Colless on board today and from gate 1 will be given every chance to redeem himself. I think he's up to a good race so if he is then he'll have to run wiell in this. Eagle Farm 7-12 Vormista is looking to become the first mare since the Dark Ages to win the Stradbroke. It's always a lottery, this race, so if she's $10+ then I'll have a bet otherwise not.

Friday, June 06, 2008

SELECTIONS - 6 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Ipswich 7-1 Judge Me Fair [7]
Ipswich 8-7 Wigndove [7]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Grafton 7-7
Swan Hill 5-7, 10-7

Comments: Ipswich 7-1 Judge Me Fair won his Maiden as a 1/3 favourite last time out over this course. Not a price I would take about a horse having its 12th start but it did the job easily in the end. Maiden to Class 1 is the biggest step up in racing but there are no stars in the race and he handles the wet well so should go close. Ipswich 8-7 Wigndove led all of the way to win over this course in Class 3 company last week. Seems well in at the weights and will get through the heavy conditions OK so should go well.

Black Book: Ipswich 8-1 Decerto is probably better than these but being by Jeune he's quite disadvantaged by the heavy track. If he handles it then he should just about win but at the $2 currently on offer I prefer the POOMA.

Thursday, June 05, 2008

SELECTIONS - 5 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Townsville 6-1 Sparkling Ruler [13]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Geelong 5-12, 8-8
Townsville 8-1, 8-2

(* Any updates at York later on *)

Comments: Townsville 6-1 Sparkling Ruler has won 4/5 since moving to FNQ from Victoria. After 3 runs from a spell he'll be suited at the 1200m but I wouldn't be jumping into a silly price, as a couple of his rivals go OK also.

Black Book: Zoom Star is a different horse these days than the one that went into the BB so he's out. On the plus side, El Presidente showed that he is the real deal in WA racing by comfortably getting home first up from a spell. Marasco was never a chance in that race and looks like he needs further than the 1200m of yesterday's race.

Wednesday, June 04, 2008

SELECTIONS - 4 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Belmont 2-1 Proud Falcon [9,18]
Belmont 10-1 Amici [18]
Canterbury 2-1 Superior Instinct [18]
Doomben 3-3 Hear Ye [13]
Sandown 6-2 Sazonar [18]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Balaklava 5-1
Canterbury 2-2, 4-4
Doomben 6-6

(* Any updates at Belmont later on *)

Comments: Belmont 2-1 Proud Falcon goes up 2kg for winning in this grade and over this course last time out. These ratings band races are great, I reckon, because it gives horses a chance to knock up another win without rising in grade. In fact, a trainer can drop a horse back in grade if he needs to. The 2kg rise shouldn't mean this is too much harder to win than last time so I expect a bold showing again. Belmont 10-1 Amici also stays in the same grade he won in first up and jumps 100m in distance and rises 2.5kg in weight. The rest of the field seem to have quite a few convictions so he should just about win again. Canterbury 2-1 Superior Instinct won his Maiden first up and rises in weight, class and distance for this. On that basis I'm not at all interested in the $2.50 currently on offer though he's improving so should acquit himself well. Doomben 3-3 Hear Ye doesn't look much of a pick to me, I must admit. He steps up two grades, to the mile for the first time and has a bog track to contend with. Maybe he'll be a super miler and swim like a duck but I'm not going to take short odds to find out. Sandown 6-2 Sazonar is an example of a horse dropping in grade but rising in weight. After his win at bigs odds over this course first up in an RB89 race he drops to an RB82 and carries another 4.5kg. This looks a tough race to win but he'll be nice odds and should give us a good run for our money.

Black Book: Belmont 8-12 Zoom Star has one run last preparation and is a definite blow out chance at big odds in this race with no weight to carry. Belmont 9-2 El Presidente had to wait a few days for his chance to have a crack at reigning champ Marasco. It'll be a great race and given he'll be about $3.50 that seems a good bet.

Tuesday, June 03, 2008

SELECTIONS - 3 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

There are no POOMA selections today

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Kyneton 10-5

Comments: Two abandoned meetings and a crappy meeting at Kyneton. Keep your money for another day.

Black Book: Gee, Cagey Lady was given no hope by Williams again yesterday so I don't know whether I should keep her in the black book. I'll assess after her next run.

Monday, June 02, 2008

SELECTIONS - 2 June 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Bairnsdale 7-5 Fince The Tronics [1]
Northam 5-2 Youlwin [18]
Northam 6-9 Kalasilk [7]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Bairnsdale 9-4
Northam 5-3, 5-7, 6-9, 8-3
Taree 1-2, 8-3
Wagga 7-1

(* And updates at Northam later on *)

Comments: Bairnsdale 7-5 Fince The Tronics ran a good first up 2nd at Sandown before going missing in action at Moonee Valley last time. This is slightly harder than those two races but should be a fair chance to lead all of the way. Northam 5-2 Youlwin finally won another race when sneaking home over 1600m at this track last time out. Steps up to 2200m here but I don't think that's an issue, as he's run well when doing that previously. He really should win. Northam 6-9 Kalasilk goes OK and won her 2nd race from 7 starts in an RB64 race over this course two weeks ago. The draw doesn't help but she can settle off the pace and run home strongly so I expect her to run well.

Black Book: Northam 8-5 Cagey Lady was given a shocking ride last time at Belmont when getting more cheques than Westpac from the top of the straight. She was scratched from a race at Belmont on the weekend presumably in preference for this race. Williams gets a chance to redeem himself in a race that she really should win.

Comments: Devonport 6-2 Green Ale won his first start at 50/1 over this course last time. If it wasn't a fluke then he could win again and he might be OK odds. Dubbo 5-2 Kelectron made it a hat trick of wins at Bathurst a week ago when getting home narrowly after drawing wide. Has to come from 11 of 12 here and will need to run up to his best to win again. Kalgoorlie 7-1 Battleship finally won another race over this course and in this class last time after a year of running good races but not landing the prize. Only rises 1.5kg so must be a fair chance to lead all of the way again.
