September's Tale of Woe

Check out the graph of POOMA performance for the year.

After a rocky start we got to a nice profit level, which we then stayed at for a while before pre-emptng the US financial market crash and losing a lot of the profit we'd built up.

Guilty systems for September were #6 with 0/4, #7 with 1/10 @ -87%, #10 with 1/13 @ -68% and #18 with 2/16 @ -58%. Systems 6, 7 & 18 are all based on last start winners so there's a consistent theme there that let us down. Given they started in the market you would have expected a better result.

Let's hope they've got their bad runs out of the way and we can enjoy a better finish to the year.

SELECTIONS - 30 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

There are no POOMA selections today

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Randwick 7-3

Comments: No selections today, which is fine by me given they've performed even worse than the current US financial market crisis this month.

SELECTIONS - 29 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

There are no POOMA selections today

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Albury 2-1
Belmont 2-6
Moe 2-2

(* Any updates at Belmont later on *)

Comments: Nothing today. Suits me fine. The non-POOMAs look like they've got fair chances, for what it's worth.

SELECTIONS - 28 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Hobart 2-1 Wealthy Lad [7]
Swan Hill 6-10 Elmatrice [7]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Flemington 6-14
Orange 4-1, 5-1
Port Macquarie 4-1, 8-5
Sunshine Coast 6-5
Swan Hill 7-1

(* Any updates at Narrogin later on *)

Comments: Hobart 2-1 Wealthy Lad has struck form at two runs from a spell, which includes a last start win over this course. Jumps a couple of grades again and this isn't much of a field so he should just about win again. If he doesn't then I hope his owners don't ring and complain that he's a a POOMA. Swan Hill 6-10 Elmatrice is yet another selection that pops up when things are going badly. He took 34 starts to break his duck, which he did over this course 27 days ago. There are proper horses in this field so I predict that he has no hope at all.

Saturday, September 27, 2008

SELECTIONS - 27 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Mornington 8-6 The Cossack [19]
Toowoomba 4-5 Jester Rumble [10]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Cheltenham 3-2
Doomben 1-2
Mornington 7-9
Randwick 3-8
Toowoomba 6-1

(* Any updates at Belmont later on *)

Comments: Mornington 8-6 The Cossack looks a top chance in what is a very strong race that I'm sure will be a good form race for a month or so. He got home strongly to win last time and this is a similar sort of race so he should go close from his ideal draw. Toowoomba 4-5 Jester Rumble has had a let up since three even runs after winning her Maiden first up over this course when she finished off well. It seems unlikely that she can beat Chakvetadze but we'll get good odds to have a go.

Black Book: Doomben 6-6 Rockem has won 4/8 as a black booker and we're only just ahead with him, as he's won a short odds most runs. The 1000m was a bit short for him first up and if he can settle off the speed will win this race; he's been beaten both times he's led them up in town.

SELECTIONS - 26 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Darwin 3-6 Rishikesh [10]
Queanbeyan 7-7 Beautiful Scarlet [10]
Tamworth 1-4 Inquest [10]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Toowoomba 7-1, 7-7

(* Any updates at Moonee Valley later on - UPDATED + Darwin *)

Comments: Given how things have gone this month I can only suggest it's appropriate that we have a selection called Inquest running for us today, as that's what we'll need at the end of the month.

Thursday, September 25, 2008

SELECTIONS - 25 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Northam 5-6 Lady Iconic [10]
Townsville 8-6 General Macarthur [7]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Hawkesbury 7-8
Lismore 7-13
Townsville 2-5, 5-2

(* Any updates at Northam later on *)

Comments: Someone call a search party, our selections seem to have become lost... Northam 5-6 Lady Iconic really should have won more than one race in her career. Will settle back and run home and should be some sort of chance. Townsville 8-6 General Macarthur is exactly the sort of selection we're going to get when things are going poorly. He's been working through his grades OK but his last start winning jockey has stayed on board Guru Cheiron and he has to beat Brer Fox, which is 4/4 and has generally flogged his rivals and run fast time. At least we'll get a reasonable price.

SELECTIONS - 24 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Belmont 1-3 Deed I Do [4,14]
Canterbury 2-1 Dancing Havana [18]
Canterbury 6-3 Joku [4,14]
Eagle Farm 8-7 Chilli Magic [14]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Eagle Farm 2-11, 5-8, 7-6

(* Any updates at Belmont later on *)

Comments: Belmont 1-3 Deed I Do led all of the way to win first up at Northam in Maiden company before running 2nd all of the way there last start when an odds on favourite. Has performed well in town previously and looks like he's got a good chance. Canterbury 2-1 Dancing Havana has started favourite at 7 of his 9 runs but backers are still behind after his last start dead heat win at over this course in an R0 event. This is a weaker field and with Dan Ganderton's claim he gets in with the same weight so he really does look like the winner. Canterbury 6-3 Joku is a promising type that has won his 3 out of town runs and put in good performances at the other two runs in the city. Dan Ganderton takes the ride and looks like he'll pick up at least a double for the day. Eagle Farm 8-7 Chilli Magic has failed each time she's come to town but this is the weakest field she's seen in those runs. She's drawn perfectly, has Scott Seamer to ride and looks a really good chance.

Black Book: Moonee Valley 6-8 Bromley is my 2009 Caulfield Cup horse so happy to watch his progression here. He's probably not suited by the small track, as he's a big strider that takes a bit of time to hit top speed but when he does he really gets home hard.

Tuesday, September 23, 2008

SELECTIONS - 23 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Warrnambool 5-5 Zephyr Dot [7]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Randwick 4-8
Rockhampton 6-1
Warrnambool 7-2

Comments: Warrnabmbool 5-5 Zephyr Dot returned from a spell and easily won a Maiden race over this course. This is a Class 1 so it's the biggest step in racing that she needs to take and there are a few that go OK here, which means I'd want more than the 6/4 currently on offer.

Monday, September 22, 2008

SELECTIONS - 22 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

There are no POOMA selections today

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Nowra 1-4, 5-1

Comments: Gee, it would be nice to get a winner. This month has been a bit of a disaster. Nothing today, which is just as well given they're really poor meetings.

Sunday, September 21, 2008

SELECTIONS - 21 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Ballarat 6-7 Jabal Tarik [1]
Hobart 5-3 Lady Lynette [10]
Pakenham 8-3 Count The Diamonds [1]
Quirindi 1-2 Konin [19]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Ballarat 5-6, 7-3
Hobart 2-1, 3-10, 9-5
Lismore 1-3
Sunshine Coast 6-6, 7-2

(* Any updates at Northam later on *)

Comments: Ballarat 6-7 Jabal Tarik has won his last three non-metro runs and goes well at this distance range. Comes off a Sandown win, is well drawn, has the Lee Freedman polish and has Dwayne Dunn to ride so looks a great chance in this. Hobart 5-3 Lady Lynette looks perfectly placed in this race. She's had two first up runs for a win and a narrow 2nd, has drawn the fence and has a good record. She should be around $3 and give us a good sight. Pakenham 8-3 Count The Diamonds steps up quickly in trip after his even first up run. This is not much of a field and he has performed in town so should go close though I'm not keen on the $3.90 currently available. Quirindi 1-2 Konin has a formline that reads 323223323, which would annoy her owners but please bookies. She's drawn off the track here but should press forward and take up a prominent position in the run. Her problem is that she doesn't seem to be able to accelerate at the top of the straight, which allows others to get past her, but does keep whacking away to maintain her 100% place strike rate. This field looks horrible so she must be a chance.

Saturday, September 20, 2008

SELECTIONS - 20 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Belmont 3-1 Verossi [18]
Toowoomba 3-1 Rocklet [19]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Belmont 1-3
Caulfield 3-2
Cheltenham 3-2
Eagle Farm 3-5
Echuca 8-2
Rosehill 1-3, 8-4

(* Any updates at Belmont later on *)

Comments: Belmont 3-1 Verossi started a short price favourite and snuck home after having a good run in transit. Steps up in trip and should go close but I don't like the $2.10 currently on offer. Toowoomba 3-1 Rocklet has really hit her straps and really whupped them last time as a $1.40 favourite. Looks like she'll start that price again and it's hard to see how they beat her here.

Black Book: Caulfield 3-7 Sunburnt Land has been balloted out of G3 and G1 races over the last two weeks. If connections thought he was a chance in those races then he simply has to win this race. Caulfield 8-2 Vormista nearly knocked off Apache Cat first up last time in a G1 race at Doomben. Didn't have much luck after that and has come up with the visitors' draw here just to continue that run. If she's anywhere near them on the corner then she can run them down. Eagle Farm 4-5 Slim Pickings looks perfectly placed in this race and has two wins and a second when second up from a spell. He'll finish hard at good odds and can definitely win this race.

Friday, September 19, 2008

SELECTIONS - 19 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Bathurst 1-2 Pairajet [18]
Bathurst 7-6 Star Acclaimed [6,7]
Geelong 1-2 Very Fast [18]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Bathurst 1-1, 5-8
Geelong 1-4
Sunshine Coast 7-6

Comments: Bathurst 1-2 Pairajet won over 1100m at his first start but any of the 4 runners could win this race so it's probably a watch race only. Bathurst 7-6 Star Acclaimed won over this course on a heavy track in an RB57 race last time. This race looks much stronger but she must be a fair chance though the current price of $3.50 is unexciting. Geelong 1-2 Very Fast has had a month off since squeaking home in a similar event. Rises 2kg against the limit and, like the other POOMAs today, he must be a chance.

Thursday, September 18, 2008

SELECTIONS - 18 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

There are no POOMA selections today

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Ipswich 5-3, 6-3
Newcastle 1-9

Comments: Nothing much to back today.

Wednesday, September 17, 2008

SELECTIONS - 17 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Belmont 1-1 Camarosa Lady [18]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Belmont 2-1
Doomben 1-6, 6-7
Gawler 5-1, 5-2
Sandown 1-2, 2-1

(* Any updates at Belmont later on *)

Comments: Ashikaga is going to start favourite in the Cameron but I reckon he's a risk today so am going to stand out Bobadah in that leg of the quaddie. Belmont 1-1 Camarosa Lady snuck home by a wart over this course and in this grade two weeks ago. Rises 3kg in weight but so do those she raced against so unless there's a good first starter then she'd have to be a big chance.

Black Book: Sandown 4-11 Boat Quay went into the black book after a remarkable last start win at a MV night meeting. My comment was that it should not have been able to win but did anyway. Whether the 1000m is a tad short remains to be seen but I'm sure we'll see a big finishing run at her first start back for 10 months.

Tuesday, September 16, 2008

SELECTIONS - 16 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

There are no POOMA selections today

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Coffs Harbour 1-2, 4-1
Townsville 6-1, 7-1

Comments: Nothing today, which is just as well given how the month is going!

Monday, September 15, 2008

SELECTIONS - 15 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Rockhampton 3-1 Aspiran [19]
Rockhampton 6-5 West Gindian [10]
Scone 9-13 Sutton Manor [19]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Scone 7-1, 7-2, 8-4

Comments: This month is going horribly, so far, and a winner would be nice. Rockhampton 3-1 Aspiran has been really good in 2 and 3YO company and only has to run up to her last start effort at Eagle Farm to take this out. She'll be very short odds, though. Rockhampton 6-5 West Gindian can win if it's his turn given they all seem to have their day and if he can overcome his barrier. Scone 9-13 Sutton Manor has drawn off the track but she's got a lot of speed and can probably cross this field and lead or sit outside the leader so should be a genuine hope.

Sunday, September 14, 2008

SELECTIONS - 14 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Cranbourne 4-1 Regal Reward [18]
Hobart 4-1 Lady Brackenbury [18]
Hobart 9-5 Mafia Man [7]
Queanbeyan 3-4 Cash For Cards [10]
Sunshine Coast 7-1 Shifteman [6]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Cranbourne 5-2
Queanbeyan 5-1
Wodonga 3-10, 4-5

Comments: Well, I hope you took a $10 ew all up at Moonee Valley yesterday (like I did) on the two non-POOMA selections (Chairmanoftheboard $10.90 into Guillotine $28.20) and picked up a handy $4K for your trouble. Cranbourne 4-1 Regal Reward has led them up at her three runs since resuming, knocking up two wins and a narrow 4th in the process. Looks to have some scope and this is not too hard so she should go close at around $2.60. Hobart 4-1 Lady Brackenbury got her turn to win last time and grabbed the chance with all four hooves, winning clearly. Doesn't win out of turn but has won two in a row previously so let's hope she can do so again. Hobart 9-5 Mafia Man really does look like the winner is this if he runs up to his first up Maiden win in this. He'll probably go around as favourite, depending on whether money comes for main danger Waddington, and I'll be standing him out in quaddies. Queanbeyan 3-4 Cash For Cards has won 2/3 here including a big win against only three other rivals in a non-TAB race here Saturday fortnight ago. I don't know if she can beat Thumb Prints but she should run a good race. Sunshine Coast 7-1 Shifteman was good last time in winning a Class 1 over this course as a 10/9 favourite. Is odds-on on the morning line, which seems a dollar too short to me.

Saturday, September 13, 2008

SELECTIONS - 13 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Belmont 1-1 Kim Luck [18]
Cairns 2-1 The Cat's Back [19]
Cairns 5-4 Intramuros [7]
Kalgoorlie 1-5 On The Carpet [10]
Kalgoorlie 4-1 Productivity [18]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Ararat 6-7
Belmont 1-7, 4-6, 6-3
Eagle Farm 6-2, 8-1
Kalgoorlie 4-8, 5-16, 6-13
Kembla Grange 2-3, 6-7
Moonee Valley 4-8, 6-14
Morphettville 5-4, 6-5, 7-15

(* Any updates from Western Australia later on *)

Comments: Belmont 1-1 Kim Luck has a miss-win-miss-win-miss-win record so let's hope he can bring that sequence to an end by winning this. He looks a genuine $1.50 shot to me. Cairns 2-1 The Cat's Back has been in consistent form, won his only start at this track, has drawn well and has in form hoop David Crossland to steer so he should go pretty close. Cairns 5-4 Intramuros won his first start in FNQ since moving up from SEQ over this course in Class 5 company 34 days ago. He's run well down south and that was a strong effort so I expect him to be the horse to beat here. Kalgoorlie 1-5 On The Carpet flogged an RB64 field at Northam two starts back before starting an even money favourite and getting run over late after leading when 4th to Soprano Rex. Red Fish Blue Fish is also a mad leader and I don't like backing horses that lead in races where there's going to be a heap of speed thus setting it up for one to run over them late but he must be a chance. Kalgoorlie 4-1 Productivity has a good record at this track and seems pretty well in after his last start win over this course and in this class. Only goes up 1kg so he should go close again.

Black Book: Moonee Valley 7-17 Sunburnt Land was an emergency and didn't make the field last week in the Bobby Lewis. He's also missed a run today in the Manikato. Given he hasn't been entered for alternative races you'd have to think that he's absolutely flying so I'm keen to get on him when he makes a field. Rosehill 1-5 Neroli was first across the line but lost on protest last time after charging home from last. She'll win this clearly so protests won't be a problem. Cairns 3-11 Rontgen was probably a certainty beaten last time, which is why he went into the black book. Never, ever got a chance to get out of a pocket and went to the line in cruise mode behind a wall of horses. Look for a big run at good odds.

Friday, September 12, 2008

SELECTIONS - 12 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

There are no POOMA selections today

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Geelong 1-3, 2-8
Wellington 8-3

Comments: Nothing much happening today. Save your dollars for tomorrow.

Thursday, September 11, 2008

SELECTIONS - 11 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Ballina 6-1 Strategic Sparkle [18]
Ipswich 7-1 Falling Star [10]
Mornington 8-6 Blacken [1]
Northam 8-1 Finally China [18]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Ballina 3-8, 7-5
Hawkesbury 7-8

(* Any updates at Northam later on *)

Comments: Ballina 6-1 Strategic Sparkle ran a couple of good 3rds before scoring his Maiden win here from gate 14 of 14. It's not often you see a horse having his first start only 12 days shy of turning 7 but this fellow did. He's obviously had problems but if he runs up to his last effort then he'll go close in this. Ipswich 7-1 Falling Star has had two runs at this track for a win and a last start 2nd when first up in F&M Class 2 company. The rest of her runs have been in town and she drops back a grade here and from the good draw nearly looks a good thing. Mornington 8-6 Blacken has won a sum total of zero races in her 15 start career. That's only one less win than St Kilda has premierships. She has run around against some good fillies and was beaten only 5L by Zarita in a race last time in so she has talent which, if she displays it today, will see her get home here. Northam 8-1 Finally China sat up on the pace for a narrow first start win. I remember that run and Paul Harvey was the difference. He retains the ride so if he's improved then he'll run well again.

Wednesday, September 10, 2008

SELECTIONS - 10 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Gold Coast 8-5 Kane Mochi [7]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Gold Coast 7-10
Kalgoorlie 4-13
Strathalbyn 8-2

(* Any updates at Kalgoorlie later on - UPDATED *)

Comments: Gold Coast 8-5 Kane Mochi returned from a spell with a nice win as odds on favourite in Class 1 company here 18 days ago. Jumps a couple of grades but looks to be an up and comer so I expect him to win with the dangers coming from his stablemates. 12.03PM Update: I forgot to mention that Sandown 3-6 Monalusive might be one to follow today. She was entered for a much harder race on Saturday but was an emergency and didn't make the final field. If they thought she was a chance in that race then she'd have to go close here.

Tuesday, September 09, 2008

SELECTIONS - 9 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Warrnambool 3-1 Participation [18]
Warrnambool 5-1 Outback Johnny [18]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Nil

(* Any updates later on *)

Comments: Warrnambool 3-1 Participation doesn't win out of turn but is a consistent type that got home last time over 1400m. Steps up to 1700m, which looks suitable and must be a chance again. Warrnambool 5-1 Outback Johnny rises only 1kg for his win in this grade and over this course two weeks ago. This is an even field but he should give us a good sight at e/w odds.

Monday, September 08, 2008

SELECTIONS - 8 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Wagga 2-1 Roi Polloi [18]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Wangaratta 1-4
Wyong 2-8

Comments: Wagga 2-1 Roi Polloi took 13 runs to win again and then made it a double at this course when getting home last time by about half a length. It's only a small field so anything could happen but you'd think he'll go close again.

Sunday, September 07, 2008

SELECTIONS - 7 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Sunshine Coast 4-1 Moxie Million [10]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Devonport 1-2, 1-4
Mudgee 1-7, 2-8, 4-14
Sunshine Coast 6-3

(* Any updates at Kalgoorlie later on *)

Comments: Sunshine Coast 4-1 Moxie Million started long odds but ran well to nearly get home over this course first up. With General Purple in the field he'll be good odds and if he takes improvement from the run will be a threat here.

Saturday, September 06, 2008

SELECTIONS - 6 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Toowoomba 3-2 Chasing Chester [10]
Toowoomba 5-3 Rocklet [8,19,20]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Belmont 1-1, 2-4, 5-8
Cheltenham 1-4
Gold Coast 1-1
Stawell 4-12

(* Any updates at Belmont later on *)

Comments: Toowoomba 3-2 Chasing Chester made it 2/2 since moving from NSW to Toowoomba when winning first up in this grade two weeks ago. Should get a good run midfield and be in the finish. Toowoomba 5-3 Rocklet steps up quickly in grade here but the way that she won a Class 2 race here as a $1.50 favourite last time would indicate that she's up to it. She's a full sister and stablemate to our black booker, Rockem, which returns from a spell in the previous race. She's also been picked by 9 individual systems 3 of which are POOMAs, which I can't remember happening before.

Black Book: Flemington 7-2 Master O'Reilly did the right thing for us by winning last year's Caulfield Cup. He had a one run spell in May when he ran a 1.7L 8th over a mile in Group 3 company in Adelaide. I expect him to run well and could easily run 3rd behind the two good horses at the top of the market. If there's going to be a surprise in that race then it might come from Zarita. Toowoomba 4-7 Rockem went through the grades nicely last time in though he hasn't quite hit the heights I expected. He should win this if he's as good as I still think he is.

Friday, September 05, 2008

SELECTIONS - 5 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Geelong 6-1 Cocenta [18]
Geelong 8-2 Wills Power [10]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Canberra 4-3
Townsville 5-2, 6-5

Comments: Well, we've started the month in shocking form, which is pretty much how August ended. 5 losers in a row this month and only two odds on winners from our last 14 picks. Let's hope we set things right today. Geelong 6-1 Cocenta was 1/15 until discovering the all weather track at Geelong, which has seen this rejuvenated 8YO rack up 4/6 over this trip. Has had a bit of a break since his last start win but should go close again. Geelong 8-2 Wills Power is another that goes well on this surface. He thundered home from back in the field last time after drawing 12/12 to go down narrowly as an odds on favourite. That racing style is always a risk so I don't want to take short odds about him but he does look a likely winner.

Thursday, September 04, 2008

SELECTIONS - 4 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Northam 8-2 Gloting [6,7]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Wyong 3-2

(* Any updates at Northam later on *)

Comments: Northam 8-2 Gloting came out of this gate, over this course, with this jockey and in this class to win last time. Rises 2kg for that effort and is 2/2 at this track so should give us a good sight.

Wednesday, September 03, 2008

SELECTIONS - 3 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Belmont 1-1 Island In The Sun [18]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Doomben 7-4
Sandown 2-2, 6-14

(* Any updates at Belmont later on *)

Comments: Belmont 1-1 Island In The Sun is going for a hat trick of wins after clear victories at Northam and then here over 1400m. Steps up in trip but being by Island Morn that should be no problem so expect a forward run.

Tuesday, September 02, 2008

SELECTIONS - 2 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Ipswich 6-2 Delcius [7]
Muswellbrook 7-10 Adam's Eve [6,7]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Ipswich 2-5

Comments: Ipswich 6-2 Delcius returned from a spell to win over this 800m scamper on a heavy track back at the end of July. He's going to need to do everything right from gate 9 but if he jumps quickly then should be in this for a long way. Muswellbrook 7-10 Adam's Eve has won her last two over this course in easy style. If she runs up to her last start effort on the heavy track then she'll make it three in a row in this. Compare her win last start on 18 June when she ran 1:16.4 with Obeys' effort on the same day in 1:17.6 (albeit the track had been upgraded between races from dead to good); it's likely that Obeys will start a shorter price than Adam's Eve so we'll get good value.

SELECTIONS - 1 September 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

There are no POOMA selections today

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Bathurst 4-2, 5-5, 7-3
Leeton 1-1

Comments: Well, if things continue the way they have so far this year then we're in for a loss this month, as the monthly POOMA sequence is loss-win-loss-win-loss-win-loss-win. Nothing today so at least we can't go backwards.
