SELECTIONS - 29 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Moonee Valley 8-6 Samadji [13]
Taree 1-1 Silver Dane [13]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Moonee Valley 1-2, 2-3, 8-1, 8-2
Queanbeyan 3-5, 4-2, 7-2
Taree 2-6, 6-3, 7-4

(* Any updates at Moonee Valley later on *)

Comments: Taree 1-1 Silver Dane is going to be too short to back in the small field. Moonee Valley 8-6 Samadji looks pretty well placed in a race where Alexander Beetle and Jeteven will put on a heap of speed. He'll park just off them and have the last shot in the straight.

SELECTIONS - 28 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

There are no POOMA selections today

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Bathurst 1-1
Canterbury 4-1
Mt Barker 7-2

(* Any updates at Canterbury and Mt Barker later on *)

Comments: Unless any selections come out at Canterbury and Mt Barker then it doesn't look much of a day to have a go.

Wednesday, February 27, 2008

SELECTIONS - 27 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Launceston 6-5 Testamarriage [7]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Gawler 1-10
Sandown 4-2, 7-2

(* Any updates at Ascot later on *)

Comments: I spoke too soon yesterday, as Townsville got abandoned before the first. A big day in Tassie today with a bunch of good races. Britomart looks the horse to beat in the Cup. Launceston 6-5 Testamarriage handled a few of her main dangers comfortably enough last time to suggest she's the horse to beat again. Around $3 seems a good price to me.

SELECTIONS - 26 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

There are no POOMA selections today

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Randwick 6-1
Townsville 2-7
Warrnambool 7-2, 8-2

Comments: Nothing much to comment on today. The folks up in FNQ will be happy that they've finally got a meeting after having been rained out all month.

Monday, February 25, 2008

SELECTIONS - 25 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Port Macquarie 5-2 King Benji [7]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Narromine 5-1, 7-2
Port Macquarie 6-1, 6-11, 7-3, 7-12, 8-2
Seymour 7-2

Comments: Port Macquarie 5-2 King Benji won nicely over this course last time and drops slightly in grade while rising in grade. Has won 5/9 at this course and 0/10 - not even a placing - at other courses so he should go close again.

CORRECTION: I spotted a major stuff up with system 7. Instead of it selecting the top-rated horse I had left that critereon out (for Bet Selector users - when I renamed it from my test area to in-use area I put BR$ in the system name not BR$1 so it wasn't an obvious thing to spot) and it was giving many more selections than it should, including more than one in a race. System 7 was performing pretty well as it was as a 2008 POOMA with 57 live selections at 30% s/r and +13% profit but, in fact, that was a bit of a fluke. I have corrected the error and adjusted results accordingly, which is important as people need to understand how each system is going so that they can factor that into their bet size/confidence. As both System 7 and overall POOMAs were in the black at the time the error was spotted it's obviously not a case of trying to fudge the results.

SELECTIONS - 24 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Bunbury 6-4 Jungle Hawk [7]
Canberra 2-2 Inspired Choice [9]
Launceston 9-4 Royal Destination [7]
Sunshine Coast 8-8 Mission Beach [7]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Bendigo 8-2
Bunbury 8-1
Canberra 3-2, 3-3, 4-3, 7-4
Wyong 8-1, 8-2
Yarra Glen 1-1

(* Any updates at Bunbury later on - UPDATED *)

Selections: Hopefully, it's De Lightning Ridge day at Canberra today for my old trainer, Keith Dryden. A few POOMAs today and we'll need one to get home in order to finish in front.

Saturday, February 23, 2008

SELECTIONS - 23 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Doomben 3-4 Grand Laddie [13, 16]
Doomben 4-6 She's In The Guide [10]
Gold Coast 4-6 Perilous Princess [10]
Gold Coast 5-2 Pattie's Mate [7]
Gold Coast 6-8 Tarlee Dancer [6,7]
Grafton 7-2 Grenades [10,11,13]
Kembla Grange 3-7 Rasberry Licorice [10]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Ascot 1-2, 1-7, 3-1, 4-2
Canterbury 1-2, 6-1, 6-6
Caulfield 4-12, 6-11
Doomben 2-3
Gold Coast 7-10
Grafton 3-1, 3-8
Toowoomba 2-2, 4-4, 5-6

(* Any updates at Ascot later on *)

Comments: We managed to poke into the black yesterday with a long overdue $10+ winner. Hopefully, this lot can keep us that way. Doomben 3-4 Grand Laddie is better suited back to a dry track and up in trip so in a pretty average field must be a great chance. Doomben 4-6 She's In The Guide has racked up two all the way 4L+ wins over 1000m and 1100m since a spell. Steps up to 1200m here and is up a tad in grade but if she repeats those performances will be making it a hat trick. Gold Coast 4-6 Perilous Princess was backed 10/1 into 4/1 at her first up run since coming from Victoria and duly saluted. She then ran really well when beaten narrowly 2nd up and I expect her to be running home hard again. Looks a nice e/w bet at the morning line odds. Gold Coast 5-2 Pattie's Mate ran her usual race out front last time and out-toughed them to win after being taken on most of the way. She's a consistent type without ever having put two in a row together so I'll avoid the $1.60 on the morning line like the plague. Gold Coast 6-8 Tarlee Dancer is one of those horses that you hate to see selected, as she only wins once every blue moon and that colour moon occurred last run. Still, winning form is good form and the rest are no champs so she must be a chance again. Grafton 7-2 Grenades won his Maiden nicely last time at his 2nd start since coming from Brisbane after being beaten first up as a threes-on shot. Is pretty well placed in a RB62 and I'll take him one-out in a quaddie there. Kembla Grange 3-7 Rasberry Licorice scooted around this course six weeks ago to win in quick time, just over half a second outside the record. Her form looks in and out but that's because she hasn't run well in town. She has two wins and two 2nds from her last four non-metro runs so looks a fair chance in this.

Black Book: Canterbury 9-9 Hairy has won 3/5 for us and is a fair chance of making it 4/6 in this race on a suitably wet track. Caulfield 3-12 Moreton Bay is having his third go as a black booker and we're still looking for a return. He is a very talented horse so a big run at big odds won't surprise me. Caulfield 5-1 Fiumicino needed to run well first up and he made nice ground to be beaten 2.6L. I'm not going to back him today, as I think that Princess Coup is the go in that race after her flashing first up run. Don't leave Duoro Valley out of your multiples, either. He has a really good record at the track, trip and 2nd up. Doomben 6-1 Slim Pickings has been fantastic for us and I've managed to recommend against him when he's not a chance (such as in the Weetwood). He needs pace on, which doesn't seem to be the case here so I think he's an e/w bet though he is very well in at the weights.

Kyneton 8-1 El Cazador [13]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Eagle Farm 1-11, 8-9
Moonee Valley 2-6, 4-2, 7-8
Naracoorte 2-4, 6-1
Quirindi 3-8

SELECTIONS - 21 February 2008

There are no POOMA selections today

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Geraldton 3-1, 6-1
Randwick 3-2
Sale 8-1

(* Any updates at Geraldton later on *)

Comments: FNQ is still under water, obviously, so Rocky is off today. The last six times this month that Rocky/Townsville has tried to have a meeting it's been abandoned.

Wednesday, February 20, 2008

SELECTIONS - 20 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Ascot 1-4 Danerip [8]
Ascot 2-1 The Future [9]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Hawkesbury 6-3, 8-2
Ipswich 8-5
Mornington 6-2, 9-6
Murray Bridge 7-1, 9-1

(* Any updates at Ascot later on *)

Comments: A couple of selections today at Ascot and both look to be strong chances though they'll be short enough.

Tuesday, February 19, 2008

SELECTIONS - 19 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Albany 8-4 Vain Esteem [6]
Benalla 4-13 Whitechapel [1]
Gosford 6-5 Wally Hatter [7]
Gosford 6-11 Dontcomonday [7]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Albany 7-4, 7-5, 7-11
Benalla 6-1, 8-4, 8-12, 9-10

Comments: Albany 8-4 Vain Esteem flogged home from back in the field in an RB67 race last time so should put in a big finish in this RB62 event. Benalla 4-13 Whitechapel should break her maiden status in this race. She's run in some OK fields and this race doesn't look to have much depth. Two selections in the one race with Gosford 6-5 Wally Hatter and 6-11 Dontcomonday both looking to have good e/w chances after their last start wins. It wouldn't surprise me to see 6-Hardhearted Hannah run an improved race, as well.

Monday, February 18, 2008

SELECTIONS - 18 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

There are no POOMA selections today

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Wellington 3-2, 6-1

Comments: A good day yesterday with 3 of 6 POOMAs getting home. It's a pity we had another $15 shot run 2nd, as well. I got the Port Lincoln quaddie with a 2x7x3xF bet. Was quite happy having the whole field in the last leg after getting a $20 shot in the 3rd leg with only 3 selections. I also took FxFx1x1 at the Sunshine Coast, standing out the two POOMAs in the last two legs, which duly saluted. Nothing worth talking about today. Looks like the old ISP might have things sorted out. Let's hope so.

Sunday, February 17, 2008

SELECTIONS - 17 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Camperdown 5-9 Lady Chienne [7]
Kilmore 3-5 Neugine [17]
Launceston 3-11 Medium Dry Molly [17]
Sunshine Coast 7-1 Noreil [10]
Sunshine Coast 8-1 Crystal Sentinel [7]
Taree 7-6 Impulsive Act [7]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Launceston 4-11
Port Lincoln 5-4
Taree 1-4, 3-2, 4-3

(* Any updates at Bunbury later on *)

Comments: My up and down Internet connection is causing me extreme grief. Luckily, I've got a small amount of bandwidth courtesy of an unsecured wireless network in a neighbour's house (how doughy is that?) so can get a post up with today's selections. Getting updates is still a painful process so I'll provide further selections later in the day if there are any.

Saturday, February 16, 2008

SELECTIONS - 16 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Geelong 5-5 Zip It Off [13]
Moonee Valley 1-2 Let Loushe [1]
Moonee Valley 7-2 Apache Cat [12]
Moonee Valley 7-3 Let Go Thommo [12]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Ascot 2-2, 3-2, 5-2, 6-4, 7-3
Eagle Farm 7-7, 7-12
Geelong 8-3
Moonee Valley 3-1
Moruya 4-1, 6-1
Randwick 4-2, 7-11, 8-9

(* Any updates at Ascot later on - UPDATED *)

Comments: Apache Cat was terrific first up and is obviously a huge chance again. Let Go Thommo was also good last time, though this field is harder. Dance Hero leads them clearly and it's worth remembering that he nearly knocked off Takeover Target first up given he's coming off a 56 day break. He ran 2nd to Miss Andretti first up over this course 18 months ago in track record time so he's going to either be in the finish or flop out the back, which seems to be his form pattern these days. Monet Rules looks like he gets a drag along behind Dance Hero and he's going to be a great e/w chance at odds. Flash Trick has steamed home into 3rd spot first up at his last two runs, albeit in easier company, so I'd stick him in trifectas.

Friday, February 15, 2008

SELECTIONS - 15 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Pakenham 3-8 Fictional [1]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Canterbury 2-5

Comments: My ISP has been down since last night so I can't connect to my server at home and calculate today's selections. I'll update as soon as possible.

Thursday, February 14, 2008

SELECTIONS - 14 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Ballarat 5-4 Mister Elliot [10]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Nil

(* Any updates at York later on *)

Comments: A POOMA today and not much else. He won OK first up so should be a chance again.

Wednesday, February 13, 2008

SELECTIONS - 13 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

There are no POOMA selections today

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Ascot 6-1
Balaklava 5-7
Randwick 3-1
Sandown 1-2, 4-2, 4-3

(* Any updates at Ascot later on *)

Comments: Lots of global-warming induced wet tracks today so spend your money on guilt-assuaging carbon credits instead, as there's nothing worth backing that I can see.

Tuesday, February 12, 2008

SELECTIONS - 12 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

There are no POOMA selections today

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Grafton 2-1, 2-12, 5-13, 7-2, 9-1
Swan Hill 7-6

Comments: Pissing with rain here in Canberra. Obviously doing the same at Rocky, where the meeting has been abandoned. My money is staying well and truly locked in my wallet today and I suggest you do the same.

Monday, February 11, 2008

SELECTIONS - 11 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Hobart 2-4 Maria Isle [7]
Hobart 9-12 Iron Claus [7]
Scone 7-6 I'll Declare [13]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Hobart 6-2
Scone 4-15

Comments: A few POOMAs today and they all look to be strong chances. You'll see that I've put the POOMA results summary in the sidebar, which looks neater and allows you to match a day's selections with how the system that picked it is going. I missed the total at the bottom, which I'll fix later on.

Sunday, February 10, 2008

SELECTIONS - 10 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Bathurst 2-3 Magic Switch [17]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Albany 8-2
Bathurst 3-9
Colac 4-1
Cranbourne 2-5, 2-6, 3-1, 3-8, 7-4, 10-8, 10-18
Gosford 1-1, 2-8, 2-9, 2-10, 3-3, 3-7, 4-7 7-8, 10-1
Naracoorte 3-9
Sunshine Coast 8-14

(* Any updates for Western Australia later on *)

Comments: The number of ruffies selected today gives you an idea of how difficult conditions are out there. Bathurst 2-3 Magic Switch is by Bellotto so should appreciate the step up in trip but it's hard to get enthusiastic about the $2.80 on the morning line.

Saturday, February 09, 2008

SELECTIONS - 9 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Gold Coast 7-7 Midnight Surprise [7]
Gold Coast 8-3 Dell Amby [7]
Hobart 3-8 Medium Dry Molly [17]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Albury 5-1, 6-1
Ascot 2-1, 4-7, 8-8
Bendigo 8-1
Doomben 3-3, 8-5
Gold Coast 3-7, 8-8
Hobart 5-7

(* Any updates at Ascot later on *)

Comments: Not much to get too excited about today, in my opinion. A few POOMAs so hopefully one can lob and give us a profit.

Black Book: Caulfield 7-1 Fiumicino went like a mule at his only run last prep. I want to see him get home well in this to stay in the BB even if he is a good horse. Rosehill 2-6 Ruby Bre improved last preparation for a couple of wins and three 2nds. Is a good wet tracker and will be getting home hard, though it's probably 100m short of what I'd prefer.

Friday, February 08, 2008

SELECTIONS - 8 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Canberra 4-1 Back On Top [7]
Canberra 4-2 De Lightning Ridge [6,7,8]
Canberra 5-2 Inspired Choice [6,7,10]
Canberra 5-4 Turf Music [7]
Canberra 7-9 Smashing [7]
Port Lincoln 4-1 Moxie Miss [6]
Port Lincoln 5-10 Annie Jane [10]
Port Lincoln 7-5 Taloora Hula [7]
Port Lincoln 8-2 Export Power [7]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Canberra 3-1, 5-4
Eagle Farm 6-7, 7-5
Moonee Valley 4-6, 7-5
Randwick 7-1

(* Any updates at MV later on *)

Comments: A stack of POOMAs today. It'll be good to see my old trainer, Keith Dryden, take another step towards a Golden Slipper runner with De Lightning Ridge who slaughtered them in the manner of a good horse at her first start.

Black Book: Canberra 5-1 Grand Rumba has looked good when winning both his previous first up starts but he's then gone downhill from there. What connections were doing stepping him up to 1750m last time I don't know. If he doesn't run well today by winning then he'll be gone from the BB. Moonee Valley 3-6 Moreton Bay was terrific at Geelong in really fast time two starts back before starting $5 in a Listed race over the carnival, finishing 3rd and going for a spell. You'd think that he'll be too far back against some quick ones in this but he'll be finishing over the top of them at at nice e/w odds might be a fair place bet.

Thursday, February 07, 2008

SELECTIONS - 7 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

There are no POOMA selections today

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Bunbury 7-1

Comments: Nothing today but the non-POOMA, Danby Wiske, goes OK and looks a good e/w chance.

Wednesday, February 06, 2008

SELECTIONS - 6 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

There are no POOMA selections today

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Canterbury 6-3, 8-7
Sandown 5-1
Strathalbyn 4-2, 6-6

(* Any updates at Ascot and Canterbury later on *)

Comments: No POOMAs today that I can bag like the one I did yesterday before it thrashed them by 4 lengths...

Tuesday, February 05, 2008

SELECTIONS - 5 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Newcastle 2-4 Tinikarua [8]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Ararat 7-3
Newcastle 2-4, 7-15

Comments: If Newcastle 2-4 Tinikarua can win over 1200m then I'll be very surprised even if it is picked by a system with a near 60% strike rate.

Monday, February 04, 2008

SELECTIONS - 4 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

There are no POOMA selections today

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Terang 3-1, 5-2, 5-8

Comments: No Kempsey meeting and nothing worth backing at Terang. Pissing with rain along most of the eastern seaboard. Must be all that global warming they're talking about.

Sunday, February 03, 2008

SELECTIONS - 3 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Launceston 6-5 Ladybirch [2]
Launceston 10-2 Spokmann [13]
Sale 7-2 Mont Blanc [13]
Sapphire Coast 2-4 Conchita [7]
Sapphire Coast 4-5 Sachrasee [2]
Sapphire Coast 5-8 Waterfront Lass [7]
Sunshine Coast 4-5 Our Mr Stilts [13,16]
Sunshine Coast 6-5 Harry Horse [17]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Bunbury 7-4
Clare 4-1, 5-3
Coonamble 7-1
Launceston 2-2, 6-8
Sapphire Coast 5-7

(* Any updates at Bunbury later on *)

Comments: We had a nice result yesterday with $16+ return from our 8 selections. It would have been really good if $11 shot Perilous Princess had have won, which she looked likely to do all the way up the straight before finishing a narrow 2nd. We'll need a few of today's selections to finish in front but they all look to have pretty good chances.

Black Book: Sapphire Coast 5-8 Waterfront Lass has been in good recent form winning a couple of non-TAB races at Tumut and running a strong 2nd to a good horse in Kiss My Fuji at Moruya two starts back. If she runs up to that effort then she'll win this.

Saturday, February 02, 2008

SELECTIONS - 2 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Doomben 8-7 Bearcountry [15]
Flemington 5-4 Playright [1]
Flemington 7-5 Britomart [16]
Gold Coast 5-6 Perilous Princess [10]
Gold Coast 6-2 Shudule Gee [7]
Morphettville 1-2 Rikbat [15]
Morphettville 2-4 Hurl [10]
Wodonga 5-5 Demandehere [11]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Ascot 1-2, 2-4
Gold Coast 8-8
Grafton 1-1, 3-12, 4-1
Rosehill 2-1, 6-12, 7-1
Toowoomba 4-4, 5-4

(* Any updates at Ascot later on *)

Comments: A bunch of POOMAs today. No time to do the full analysis but I think we'll be having a good day. Either that or we won't.

Black Book: Doomben 8-2 Slim Pickings has been terrific for us since going into the black book. In 9 runs for us he's lobbed at $7.40, $16.10, and a juicy $13 at his last run. In 3 of those runs I advised against backing him so the percentages are pretty good. There's not a lot of speed in this race, which he normally needs but should be a real chance again.

Friday, February 01, 2008

SELECTIONS - 1 February 2008

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Bordertown 5-3 Habit Of The Stars [7]

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Goulburn 1-5, 7-7

Comments: One selection today at Bordertown. Let's hope February turns around January's poor result.
