Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Taree 7-1, 7-3, 8-11
Terang 3-3
Comments: An absolute slaughter yesterday. Five selections and not one of them had the common decency to run a place let alone give us a run for our money. No selections today, which gives us the chance to recover our wits somewhat.

SELECTIONS - 30 March 2008
POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])
Albury 4-8 The Butler [7]
Orange 6-2 That's Gold [13]
Port Lincoln 1-3 Two Sox Ted [3]
Port Lincoln 6-2 Storm The Beach [3]
Sunshine Coast 8-2 Umaprince [13]
Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Albury 5-4, 5-11, 6-10, 7-2
Hobart 6-3, 6-11
Geraldton 3-2, 7-5, 7-7
Orange 4-4, 6-2
Port Lincoln 4-5, 5-2
Yarra Glen 5-2, 6-1
(* Any updates at Geraldton later on *)
Comments: Albury 4-8 The Butler won over this trip at Wagga last time in RB67 company last time. This is a big step up in grade but he's right down in weight and has a good record at this track. Given he'll be nice e/w odds I'm happy to have a go. Orange 6-2 That's Gold keeps on finding ways to win. Of his 5 wins from 8 starts the biggest margin is 0.3 lengths. Given the weight he's carrying everything will need to go right for him today, I think. Port Lincoln 1-3 Two Sox Ted won his first start and has then frustrated connections by failing to win in his next 11 runs, racking up 6 placings along the way. Ran will in a better race last time and really should get home in this given most of his rivals are maidens. Port Lincoln 6-2 Storm The Beach won here two weeks ago and this is a similar race. Doesn't tend to put two in a row together so I'd be a little careful taking less than e/w odds. Sunshine Coast 8-2 Umaprince is a good horse but he has a dodgy wet track record and hasn't won first up from 8 goes so the $3.2 on the morning line looks way unders to me. Note that daylight savings has ended in WA so they're another hour behind meaning any updates will be later than usual.
Black Book: Yarra Glen 7-3 Moreton Bay won as expected last time as a twos-on favourite. He's one of my 2008 long range Caulfield Cup picks so I'd like to think he'll go close in this.

SELECTIONS - 29 March 2008
POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])
Gold Coast 5-4 Single Bound [10]
Kembla Grange 3-3 Ciento Mambo [17]
Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Bendigo 5-2
Moonee Valley 7-9, 8-8
Morphettville 1-8, 8-1, 8-3
Queanbeyan 4-3
Randwick 3-6
Toowoomba 1-1, 2-1, 2-3
(* Any updates at Ascot later on *)
Comments: Gold Coast 5-4 Single Bound has no weight, which should help him here. His one go on a wet track was when he was beaten out of sight over 1200m at this course last prep. Whether it was the track condition, distance or both is yet to be determined but if he's $4+ then I'll take him. Kembla Grange 3-3 Ciento Mambo comes from a system with a 2/20 this year but it has a habit of going on runs of wins, mostly at good prices. This guy is going to be good odds and I think he'll go very close.
Black Book: Toowoomba 5-2 Slim Pickings has not been suited in his last two starts, as there hasn't been much pace on, which he needs. There's not much pace here either but he should go close, as it's a drop in grade.

Rockhampton 5-4 Four Amigos [6]
Seymour 6-8 Live Eight [13]
Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Cessnock 8-2
Goulburn 4-2, 5-7
(* Late update - note that there's an error in GTX ratings so Rocky 7-2 is not a POOMA *)
Comments: Rockhampton 5-4 Four Amigos is a similar runner to yesterday's winning POOMA in that he's arrived in FNQ from Victoria and immediately racked up a win. Ran OK time and I think he'll be a good chance here but I'm not as confident as yesterday. Seymour 6-8 Live Eight ran well first up before being pretty shite last time out. Steps up in grade and distance in a pretty strong race so he's another that I'll probably just watch.

(* Any updates at Kalgoorlie later on *)
Comments: Townsville 8-1 Perugin Thought announced his arrival in FNQ from Victoria with a clear win over this course in Class 1 company when heavily backed. He was less than a second off the track record so you'd expect him to go close again given he has less weight even though he jumps a couple of grades.

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Moe 5-2, 5-7

Comments: Moe 7-1 Correctly comes from one of our best performing systems. He ran well in a harder race last time for 2nd so should go pretty well in this. If he got out to $3 then I'd take that.

Randwick 1-5
(* Any updates at Ascot later on *)
Comments: In the massive trivia category - race 10 at the Gold Coast is the richest R0 race ever run in Australia with its $82K Magic Millions funded prizemoney (according to my records, anyway). In the Magic Millions I think that one of the swoopers will get home so I'll be taking 1, 4, 5, 7 and 16 along with the Adelaide flyer, Augusta Proud, in the first leg of the quaddie.

(* Any updates at Albany later on *)
Comments: Doesn't look like much of a day. Best to save your bullets for the better quality meetings tomorrow.
Black Book: Yesterday's black bookers went well with Hairy finishing a good 3rd behind the terrific Hot Danish, paying $3+ for the place, while over in Perth Universal Ruler showed that he is going to be a force to be reckoned with in the next couple of years including on the east coast. Gosford 8-9 Miss Shalaquing has looked terrific in her two wins so far over 900m. This is another step up in grade but she looks up to better things.

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])
Gold Coast 5-1 Unconquerable [10]
Oakbank 7-1 Idalou [13]
Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Ascot 2-3, 3-1
Caulfield 4-4, 8-7

Newcastle 8-1, 10-1, 10-4, 10-6
Oakbank 9-5
Randwick 5-10, 8-11
Toowoomba 8-1
Wodonga 1-8, 8-6
(* Any updates at Ascot later on *)
Comments: Gold Coast 5-1 Unconquerable looks to have this at his mercy after a win and a 2nd in stronger company last time. Oakbank 7-1 Idalou has been a lot of fun for connections, winning 7 of his 14 starts. This is his first crack at a stakes race but it's only the equivalent of an Adelaide metro sprint so he should go well, especially with a lot of speed to sit behind.
Black Book: Ascot 6-9 Universal Ruler looks like a bit of a rising star. Each time he's stepped up in grade he's handled it and his win last time at Bunbury was terrific so it's hard to see them getting past him here. Randwick 9-9 Hairy didn't have much luck last time after drawing 17 of 18. She's drawn 9 of 12 here, which won't help and I expect her to be a good e/w chance given the toppie is flying.

SELECTIONS - 20 March 2008
POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])
Moonee Valley 7-8 La Goulue [1]
Rockhampton 4-10 Dee Cee Dee [10]
Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Ballarat 3-13, 6-2, 6-15, 8-14
Hawkesbury 6-1, 6-3, 7-7
Rockhampton 2-4, 6-5
(* Any updates at Moonee Valley later on *)
Comments: A couple of POOMAs today. La Goulue will be too short to back and Dee Cee Dee looks mildly legless so I'm not confident of finishing in front today.
Black Book: Moonee Valley 6-6 Moreton Bay is clearly a talented galloper and drops a thousand grades for this from a Group 3 race. That said, he was expected to go well in that race and I was a tad disappointed with his run even if he did find a bit of trouble. He hasn't won for us from three starts as a BBer and we're not going to be in front after tonight even if he wins, which I expect he will. Moonee Valley 8-4 Samadji was a fantastic first up run for 2nd behind the flying Alexander Beetle. He went back early and set himself an impossible task. Even though he's drawn out a bit I expect him to go close, as there's a huge amount of speed in the race, which will set it up for a horse like him to run over the top of them. Rockhampton 7-8 Laletta looked like Flight in two runs at Rocky before going to Eagle Farm and putting in a run that Drongo or Ourone would be proud of when a short price favourite. Assuming there's nothing wrong with her then you think she'd have to just about win.

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Ipswich 1-2, 5-11
Sandown 1-1, 4-8
(* Any updates at Ascot later on *)
Comments: As usual, yesterday's late POOMAs got rolled. I reckon late POOMAs have about a 5% strike rate so hopefully there won't be any today.
Black Book: Sandown 7-1 Hasta Manana is in the black book for his jumping prowess but it wouldn't surprise me to see him run well here. Second up last time in he was only beaten 2L by Mojo Pin over 1800m after being prominent for most of the race. I'll be including him in multiples.

SELECTIONS - 17 March 2008
POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])
Armidale 4-7 Blinkin Easy [7]
Armidale 6-16 Full Shadow [6]
Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Armidale 1-1, 3-3, 5-1, 5-5
Comments: Armidale 4-7 Blinkin Easy has won his last two in easy style, which means he's either worked out what the racing caper is about or appreciates some give in the ground, as they were the only times he's struck a dead track. He's $6 on the morning line and that seems about right given a few of the others go OK. Armidale 6-16 Full Shadow steps up a million grades and drops a heap in weight. Since the introduction of ratings band races he's found a new lease on life by winning 4 of his 7 starts. You wouldn't think he's up to this race but he's going to be good double figure odds so I'll be happy to have an e/w bet. Armidale 5-1 Champions League comes from a current non-POOMA system that has racked up 36/72 @ 76% POT since going live in November. I'll be doing a quarterly update at the end of the month and will probably bring it into the list (current 50% s/r is a tad higher than 46% expected).
Black Book: Albury 7-3 Derivative Recipt has clearly been set for this race but I have to wonder whether he's a run short in his preparation, as he didn't step up to 1900m until his fourth start last time in and has only got 1300m and 1400m runs, 8 days apart, to ready him for this. He is unbeaten over this course from two goes and has been running home hard so I expect him to look the winner 200m out.

Cranbourne 8-6 Rockpecker [13]
Kalgoorlie 1-9 Jennywren [17]
Port Lincoln 6-6 Export Power [7]
Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Ballina 8-5, 9-1
Cranbourne 5-8
Port Lincoln 2-4, 7-3
Sunshine Coast 2-15
Wellington 5-5, 5-10, 9-9
(* Any updates at Kalgoorlie later on *)
Comments: Port Lincoln 6-6 Export Power racked up a hat trick at this course with a comprehensive win over this course. This is a step up in grade and he's up against some accomplished horses so I'd be a little careful about taking less than around $6. Cranbourne 8-6 Rockpecker is a Class 1 horse with Class 1 form in a Class 3 race. He has some talent but being asked to $4 or so is not something that I would be too enthusiastic to do.

Ascot 6-1
Flemington 7-13
Geelong 3-3, 6-5
Gold Coast 5-2, 8-9, 8-12
Kembla Grange 2-1, 6-9, 10-8
Rosehill 1-11, 8-13
Taree 7-1, 7-3
Toowoomba 4-8
(* Any updates at Ascot later on *)
Comments: Kembla Grange 4-6 Zazabeau has obviously the most sound of horses but he drops a thousand grades here so you'd expect him to get home. I think that Ascot 6-1 Carbineer is a good chance to beat the expected favourite, Install, in that race so he'll be good odds. I also think that Flemington 7-13 Barlinnie is going to run a good race at his first go in black type company.
Black Book: Ascot 8-8 Second Omen is pretty well placed here for a good first up performance. She'll be nice e/w odds and I'll assess her BB status after this run. Ascot 8-13 Jestatune was a beaten favourite first run back from Victoria. She's run well in 3YO fillies' company and should run well here but she's going to be too short to back. Rosehill 8-12 Ruby Bre's first up run was too bad to be true so we'll give her another run to prove she's worthy of remaining in the BB.

Comments: A few selections up north again today. I hate it when there's two in the one race, as they tend to both get beaten.

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])
Ballarat 4-4 Showy Little Miss [1]
Bunbury 10-11 Vain Esteem [6]
Townsville 4-2 Tsar Conti [6,7,10]

Townsville 1-14, 3-2, 8-2
Wyong 6-1, 8-6, 8-7
(* Any updates at Bunbury later on *)
Comments: A bunch of POOMAs today. I'd be wary of the ones at Townsville. As I've pointed out before, with so many washed out meetings up there the form could be quite dodgy for a while.

Randwick 3-9
(* Any updates at Geraldton later on *)
Comments: Not much happening today. A POOMA at Geraldton that should go close.
Black Book: Bendigo 6-1 Forbes somehow ran 2nd first up after being further back than Bernborough. I think he's at least up to winning a Listed race as he matures so expect him to run well in this.

Comments: Arrrrgh. I took a 4x4x4x1 quaddie at Adelaide yesterday, got myself to the last leg and had a half of the $14K quaddie with Zaazorro in the last right up to about 6 inches from the line...following my genius effort to miss the $44K quaddie at Echuca on Saturday I have clearly brought down a curse upon myself. A few POOMAs today and they all look to have a fair chance.

SELECTIONS - 10 March 2008
POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])
Quirindi 2-2 Kinabalu King [10]
Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Ipswich 3-13
Moonee Valley 5-4
Morphettville 3-1, 3-7, 3-9, 9-5
Quirindi 6-3, 7-6
Comments: Gee, we were unlucky yesterday with two 2nds from two selections. One got held up half way through the race and ran home to miss narrowly and the other sat three deep the trip and went down by a similar margin. Quirindi 2-2 Kinabalu King has been consistent enough to be a chance in this. One of my old trainers, Mack Griffith, prepares him at Muswellbrook and I'm confident he'll have him fit for the race.
Black Book: Moonee Valley 6-9 Guild has had 6 starts as a black booker returning over $10. She won over this course easily first up last time in and her main danger looks to be the topweight.

Corowa 6-1, 6-11, 6-12, 8-15
Echuca 1-7, 8-5
Mt Barker 2-2, 5-7, 7-7, 7-9
Stony Creek 2-5, 6-8
Sunshine Coast 8-10, 9-7
(* Any updates at Mt Barker later on *)
Comments: Mt Barker 4-3 Oakhill Joe ran 2nd over this course last time out as a 16/1 shot. Hasn't got much of a record but this is not much of a field so he must have some sort of chance. Stony Creek 2-1 Rok Posta ran 2nd in a RB82 race at Sandown over the mile last time. Has had a few weeks off but the 1100m looks too short so I'd be very wary about taking a short price.
Black Book: Armidale 7-2 Derivative Receipt ran home OK first up. He probably wants a bit further so e/w only.

(* Any updates at Ascot later on *)
Comments: A $6+ winner from one selection was a welcome change of short term luck yesterday. Let's hope there are a few of those in today's lot. Ascot 4-3 Danerip returned from a spell with a comprehensive all the way win in quick time. Dropping back 100m will suit and she really should win again. Flemington 3-10 Burgeis has got home hard at each of her four runs so you'd think the step up to 1400m at the big track might help. The issue is whether connections are going to the well once too often this preparation given that the Blue Diamond might have been the intended grand final. Gold Coast 6-5 Haram took nearly two years to notch up his second win and given that she only got within 2L of a winner in the intervening 13 runs you'd have to think that the odds are against a repeat performance. Morphettville 4-4 Get Set is owned by the Astute Racing Brains Syndicate and after the horse had run its fifth 2nd placing in a row they might have been querying how astute they really were. She ran well to finally win her Maiden at Balaklava last time and this is not an especially hard race so she should run well again. Toowoomba 4-8 This Too Shallpass has only won two of his last 16 runs, both at this track from four runs taking his track record to 6/8 while he's only run 3 placings from 17 runs elsewhere. He's drawn well and is in with the same weight so should run well again in what is a slightly harder race.
Black Book: Eagle Farm 2-1 Slim Pickings hasn't been suited at his last two runs with no pace on. That won't be the case here and even though he is yet to win past a mile he will be a great chance here. Flemington 2-7 Little Arrow will be double figure odds and is a red hot chance in this race. Didn't quite come up last prep but wasn't far away and the 1100m down the straight will suit. Flemington 8-1 Fiumicino will be cherry ripe for this race and I think that he's only got to finish in front of two horses to win the race - Princess Coup and Sirmione. Rosehill 5-10 Dillinger looked like he could be anything with his last start win. Jumps a lot in grade, obviously, but he's going to be nice odds and should run well. Rosehill 8-8 Hairy has drawn out in Parramatta Road, which is going to hurt her chances given she's an on-pace runner. She also has to get past one of my favourite mares, Coolroom Candidate, which looks particularly well placed.

Ipswich 2-4, 7-1
Port Macquarie 5-7
Comments: It's been a bit of a bloodbath at the POOMA Corral lately. Canberra 5-1 Flying Along won a couple narrowly at the Sapphire Coast before being narrowly beaten at Moruya. Has to carry a fair whack of weight but I'd be happy with e/w odds.

Comments: A bunch of selections today. I'm a bit wary of betting up in Far North Queensland at the moment, as they've had a lot of meetings washed out and the form is going to be a bit higgledy piggledy. It would be great to see one of Port Lincoln's best ever performers, Boy John, lump his 64kg over the 1200m and win after shouldering 63kg to win over 1000m last time.

Comments: Balaklava 3-7 General Prayer isn't much of a horse but this isn't much of a field so he should be a chance given he drops in grade.
Black Book: Terang 9-1 Forbes handled them easily at his first start then ran into trouble at Ballarat before running well at MV. Returns from a good spell and I expect him to show that he has a touch of class by winning this.

Ascot 4-1 Danny Beau [6]
Caulfield 2- 6 La Goulue [1]
Toowoomba 6-5 Twinkling Star [17]
Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Ascot 1-1, 3-6, 6-2
Eagle Farm 8-10
Gold Coast 3-3, 7-3
Morphettville 4-3
Randwick 1-1, 6-3
(* Any updates at Ascot later on - UPDATED + Toowoomba *)
Comments: Losing POOMA Samadji's run at MV last night was outstanding and with an ounce of luck he wins at nice odds so he goes into the black book. Ascot 4-1 Danny Beau has been terrific in winning his last three starts. Jumps a tad in grade and weight but he looks likely to win again albeit at short odds. Caulfield 2-6 La Goulue is one I'm really keen on. Everyone seems to be spruiking Fastest Dash, which will mean we'll get better odds about a filly that had no luck when beaten 3L by Absolut Glam two runs back before a really good 2nd behind Vivacious Spirit last time. Put either of those two winners in this race and they go around at $1.30 so La Goulue must have a huge chance.
Black Book: Armidale 6-1 Derivative Receipt worked through his grades nicely at his second preparation. He returns from a spell and is giving 4kg to the field but has a class advantage on his rivals so should run well. Ascot 2-4 Jestatune had nothing go right for her in four runs in Victoria. Is 4/6 in Perth and 2/2 first up so expect a big run though at short odds. Randwick 8-13 Ruby Bre is up to a Group 2 race here 2nd up, which seems a fair step. In her favour is the fact that she's so good in the wet in what looks an even field. Jamie Innes is riding in terrific form and I expect her to go close at double e/w odds.
