POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])
Randwick 8-2 Keen Commander [1]
Toowoomba 4-3 Saint Angelo [23]
Toowoomba 5-3 Moonlight Lily [16]
Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Gold Coast 2-11, 5-2, 8-1
Mornington 4-8
Randwick 6-5, 7-4, 7-5
Sandown 5-1, 8-2
Sunshine Coast 6-11
(* Any updates at Belmont later on *)
Comments: Wet tracks everywhere other than over in the west, though it's raining over there so it could still be a clean sweep. Randwick 8-2 Keen Commander was never in doubt when leading throughout to win at Randwick last time out. He steps up in grade and distance in this but if there's a clear bias to front runners then he's going to look the winner at some stage. Toowoomba 4-3 Saint Angelo is going to be way too short to back at less than $4. A horse like Thistooshallpass, who's 4/4 at the track, looks really well placed. Toowoomba 5-3 Moonlight Lily made it three on the trot at Ipwich before an even run at Doomben when not beaten far as favourite. Looks well suited in this race and anything over $3.50 is good value.
Black Book: Cheltenham 4-2 Grand Duels won really impressively at Cheltenham before running a good 2nd in Melbourne in a strong field. Should go close in this. Sandown 4-4 Mazzacano has been terrific for us at short odds and looks like a winner again. Sandown 5-3 Hasta Manana won't be suited on the heavy track but must still be a place chance. Sandown 8-2 Lucky Secret could be anything though he won't get things his own way today but will go around at $1.40 or so and should win again.

Canberra 2-3 Shyster's Cut [10]
Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Canberra 3-6, 6-10, 7-1, 7-5
Doomben 9-10
Comments: Tamworth is abandoned taking the tally this month to an amazing 21 meetings that have bitten the dust this month. Welcome to La Nina. Canberra 2-3 Shyster's Cut must be some sort of chance in a race in which only one other runner has notched a placing. If any of the first starters are backed then it's probably worth following the money.

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])

Port Augusta 1-1 Belle Paris [23]
Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Ballarat 5-3, 7-2
Gosford 8-8
Northam 1-3
(* Any updates at Northam later on - UPDATED *)
Comments: Northam 6-6 Battleship steps up in grade and distance. He's eligible for a Class 1 so you'd think a Class 3 would be beyond him but he has a good trainer that knows what he's doing and the opposition are hardly world beaters. Might be an OK price. Port Augusta 1-1 Belle Paris has a city duck egg between her two wins at this track. She led last time out, was getting tired but held off 2-Gustino to win by 3/4L with a huge gap back to 3rd. She meets him 1.5kg worse at the weight and he should be improved but he'll still have to run her down. Unless the first starter, Anna Lou, is any good they look like running 1-2 again.

(* Updates at Belmont later on - UPDATED *)
Comments: Balaklava 9-1 Tassie Gold managed to get itself beaten as a $1.40 shot last time out, which just goes to show that you should never back last start Maiden winners stepping into Class 1 races. He's going to be a short price again but looks to be the clear top pick. Seymour 8-7 Moxie's Jewel flogged them at Sandown a week ago and steps up in grade here. There are some talented types in this so I wouldn't want to take less than $4.

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])
Mildura 6-1 High Tszyu [24]
Mildura 8-2 Brungle Pride [24]
Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Mildura 7-8
Comments: Another good result yesterday with 2/3. Let's hope we've turned the corner. Mildura 6-1 High Tszyu is a consistent type and looks a fair chance in this. Gate 9 won't help given his racing style but if Mark Pegus can get him in near the rail then he should go close. Mildura 8-2 Brungle Pride has been consistent without winning, with only one victory in the last 12 months. His best form is over shorter trips than this so he's going to need a very soft run to win. The non-POOMA selection goes well fresh and should be steaming home late.
Black Book: Mildura 3-4 Kelvoli flashed home from well back for 3rd at Swan Hill first up. I have a comment to watch for him over further, which he gets today. Albury 8-5 Waterfront Lass has won two of her three starts, defeating today's competitor Mamselle Mooring both times, and looks very well placed in this. She has enough speed to be up outside the leader from her wide gate. I expect she'll rack up another 3-4 wins in her next 6-7 starts as she goes through the grades.

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Coonamble 2-12, 7-13
Hobart 2-4, 2-8, 3-7, 4-2, 5-1, 7-2
(* Any updates at Kalgoorlie later on *)
Comments: Well, the search parties are still out looking for the two selections yesterday. Let's hope that today's can go a bit better. Casterton 10-1 Key Symbol gets a senior jockey back on board today after having a bit of a rough run. He was in good form before that so should be a chance in this. Hobart 6-1 Gold Walk has flogged them at his last two runs. If he can handle the slow track then he'll probably win again.

Randwick 4-2 Humma [1]
Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Belmont 2-1
Benalla 1-2, 6-11
Morphettville 1-6, 5-2, 5-7, 5-9
Newcastle 9-9
Randwick 9-4
(* Any updates at Belmont later on *)
Comments: Gold Coast 3-1 Falontime won her Maiden nicely when returning from a spell before stepping up to a Listed event, racing near the pace and weakening in the straight. This is obviously much easier though I wouldn't want to be taking less than about $2.30 for her. Randwick 4-2 Humma steps up in trip after leading them a merry dance out in front at Canterbury last time out. Being by Iglesia you wouldn't think that he'd be suited at longer trips but as Jujulio and others have shown the breed can get over a bit of ground quite OK.
Black Book: Belmont 4-1 Chachi has done the right thing for us at his two starts since a spell and should keep it up today. Morphettville 8-1 Vormista was eligible for a Maiden, ran first up in an R2 event, was strongly backed and finished well to win against a good field.

Tatura 1-1 Danger In The Dark [25]
Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Canberra 3-8, 5-3
Canterbury 9-5
Ipswich 7-18
Comments: Another p...p...p...profit (I almost hate to put the mock on by saying the word) yesterday with 2/2. Tatura 1-1 Danger In The Dark ran a good race over a mile at his first run and must be a fair chance in what looks a pretty crappy race.
Black Book: Bendigo 2-2 Ibtism should probably have won his first start when drawing 10 of 11, storming home from the rear, finishing 3rd and getting 2nd on protest. He then drew 13 of 13, sat 3-4 deep all the way, ran to the lead at the 200m and held out the odds on favourite in a really strong effort. Will get a nice run from the draw and looks a nice e/w chance in a strong race. Canterbury 9-6 Misasio is a nice mare returning from a spell. She didn't have much luck at her last run before a spell and from the draw and with the weight she really should go close in this.

Comments: Yesterday we made a prophet. Prophit. Profet. Prufert. How is that spelled again? The two non-POOMAs in race 3 at Belmont looked like lobbing the quinella with about 100m to go at $25 and $40 before running 2nd and 3rd. Would have been a fair old result. Today's POOMAs come from one of the surprisingly bad newly introduced systems that was working fine for ages, in line with expectation, until it became a POOMA system. Northam 2-6 Cagey Lady looks pretty well suited here. She had her first run at this trip last time and got home well after being back in the the field from her wide gate. Northam 8-3 Silent Hero is 2/2 at the track and steps up in grade and into an open age field for the first time but he looks a progressive type so should go close. I wouldn't want to take less than $3.50, though.

(* Updates at Belmont later on - UPDATED *)
Comments: Great win to Miss Andretti overnight to win the King's Stand Stakes comprehensively. Magnus ran up to his best for 3rd, Takeover Target was really suited at 1000m finishing 4th and Bentley Biscuit way down the track in 20th, and last, place so something must have gone wrong with him. Belmont 6-12 Wongkaew has been unlucky not to win yet, as she's run some good races. In spite of being a maiden and up against horses that have won multiple races she's suited at 1400m and should be getting home hard. Strathalbyn 5-4 Rustic Monarch also looks a bit outgraded but goes well first up and will also be getting home late.

Belmont 2-4, 8-1
Gold Coast 3-3
Kilmore 2-5, 7-2, 9-9
Sandown 4-10
(* Updates at Belmont later on - UPDATED *)
Comments: Toowoomba 4-1 Covet Gold drops in grade and is well weighted with the claim. He's drawn well, should lead or sit right on the speed and go really close. Toowoomba 5-4 Saint Angelo goes fast but hasn't been able to get home since this time last year. This is the easiest race he's been in for a few runs and he should also go close.
Black Book: Gold Coast 6-5 Zedeshee has drawn wide but looks to have enough speed to lead. He doesn't have much left in the locker at the end of his races so 1000m is as far as he wants to go. I still reckon we'll get a result out of the old warrior Ipswich 1-7 Zip Zip Array and he might be half a chance today. He hasn't been tried at this distance but he did get home strongly last time out. Sandown 4-10 Mazzacano keeps racking up the jumping wins and looks like he'll rack up another one today. His flat run last time was strong, which will have him sharp for this. Sandown 5-2 Hasta Manana looked weak last time after three dynamic wins. The track was very heavy that day and even though he's won in the wet I think he's better suited with drier conditions.

Comments: Well, the best way to overcome a bad run is to have two selections in a race. It doesn't happen very often and, in fact, our record when it does is actually not very good. They're both up and comers but they'll know they're in a contest with the talented and tough Back Of House to run against.

SELECTIONS - 13 June 2007
POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])
Canterbury 3-3 Long And Strong [1]
Canterbury 4-7 Jewelled Gate []
Gawler 8-3 Expectant Heir [23]
Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Belmont 1-8, 7-14
Bendigo 5-6
Doomben 4-9, 6-4
Gawler 6-9, 8-2
(* Any updates at Belmont later on - UPDATED *)
Comments: Canterbury 3-3 Long And Strong won strongly at Tamworth first up. His only really poor run was on a wet track so the heavy might not suit here but he'll be good odds so will be worth a bet. Canterbury 4-7 Jewelled Gate won at Kembla Grange before following up with a good 2nd at Randwick. Beadman will knock a couple of points off her price so she might not be much of a betting proposition. Gawler 8-3 Expectant Heir doesn't have much of a winning strike rate but neither do many of his opposition. He goes well at this track and should go OK in this.
Black Book: Belmont 2-1 Campo Di Grano is only in my BB to remind me to watch him run, as he must be one of the fastest horses over 600m in Australia. He had a huge lead 400m out last time, as he did first up, but folded up late to run 4th. He's fun to watch.

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])
There are no POOMA selections today
Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Scone 3-2, 7-10
Comments: Man, what a massacre we're enduring this month with a remarkable 2/28. That's really quite amazing. At some point there's going to have to be a run of 18/28 or so in order to make up for it. I've noticed that other tipping sites have struggled over the last few months but not as badly as we have. Two heavy tracks today and nothing worth backing.

SELECTIONS - 11 June 2007
POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])
Ballina 1-2 Creole's Shadow [23]
Townsville 4-2 Prince Of Steel [21]
Townsville 5-5 Monashee Warrior [15]
Townsville 6-1 Why Cut A River [23]
Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Camperdown 1-11, 8-2
Eagle Farm 5-11
Murray Bridge 1-2
Randwick 6-9
Townsville 5-4, 5-9
(* Note - late POOMA due to not having the late Randwick data file. Later update - oops, got that wrong, wasn't a POOMA *)
Comments: How good are these new systems going? 2/23! It can't get much worse than that, surely? One of our ruffies nearly lobbed at $130 yesterday at the Sapphire Coast, only getting caught in the last couple of hops. Ballina 1-2 Creole's Hope started favourite on debut and ran a good 2nd behind what looks to be a smart horse. He steps up 300m in trip and has to come from gate 10 so I wouldn't want to take short odds but the rest of them don't look much chop. Townsville 4-2 Prince Of Steel has been a really good horse for connections and gets his chance to win here. He was outsped in a strong race last time behind the flying Captain Wheland when he finished powerfully into 3rd spot so the step up to 1200m should suit. Townsville 5-5 Monashee Warrior is a black book horse so comments below. Townsville 6-1 Why Cut A River doesn't look very well placed in this but he has the Chillemi/Crossland magic, which will give him a chance to get home.
Black Book: Eagle Farm 4-6 Slim Pickings is a horse we had a couple of nice wins on at double figure odds last preparation. He hasn't won first up but his form at around this distance reads 131310 with the duck egg being in the Listed Wheetwood at Toowoomba. He gets back and steams home and might be a first up chance at nice e/w odds. Eagle Farm 5-10 Scenic Silver won for us two starts back but his two runs in black type company have been his only unplaced ones and this is a Group 2 race. That said, he drew 17 of 17 last time and was only beaten 3.5L in finishing 9th so from his better draw might be a good e/w chance, as well, in what looks an even field (given that Gold Edition has to get a mile). We've had three wins from three goes with Moonee Valley 3-2 Lucky Secret but that's only given us around $2 profit given how short he's been. Looks about a $1.30 shot today, as well. Townsville 5-5 Monashee Warrior is a POOMA selection today so that won't help his chances. He missed the start at his first run, worked around them to the lead and cleared out to win by 5L in an impressive performance. At his next run he was also tardy away, worked hard up on the fence to lead, kicked clear but was left a sitting shot for Hostility to run him down. They were less than a second outside of the track record that day and beat the 3rd horse clearly so, along with the other non-POOMA, Little Dreamer, look the only three chances in the race.

SELECTIONS - 10 June 2007
POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])
Kalgoorlie 7-2 Viva La Covert [10]
Rockhampton 1-2 All That Cash [1]
Rockhampton 2-4 Starana [23]
Swan Hill 5-5 War Dor [24]
Swan Hill 7-1 De Kolta [24]
Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Hobart 6-6, 7-10
Kalgoorlie 2-5
Pakenham 2-5, 2-7, 2-9, 2-10, 3-7, 3-10, 3-13, 8-9
Sapphire Coast 6-11
Comments: Well, things are going spiffingly well. Five picks yesterday and we could only get a $1.80 shot home taking June to an outstanding 2/19 of which the new systems have contributed 1/13. Kalgoorlie 7-2 Viva La Covert hasn't got much of a winning record but should be a good chance here on her last three starts that include a win in this class and two runs in stonger grade. Rockhampton 1-2 All That Cash has been in the market at all of her starts, starting favourite in half of them, and finally got it together to win in a 6 horse race last time out. This is not much of a field so she should be a chance again. Rockhampton 2-4 Starana has obviously had a lot of problems given she's having her 5th first up run in 6 starts. She's run well at this track and trip twice before so if she's OK should go well. Swan Hill 5-5 War D'Or is going to be a really good chance here, I reckon. He returned from a let up in a shorter race and will be suited by the step up in trip and the roomy Swan Hill track today. Swan Hill 7-1 De Kolta is in the weakest race he's been in for a little while and he should be a top chance. He'll get a good run in the race and is a good horse to have a 1x2 bet on.

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])
Belmont 6-3 Beat The Storm [1]
Belmont 7-8 Silvermorn [23]
Morphettville 6-7 Saratoga Demon [1]
Swan Hill 6-4 Kenbest [24]
Swan Hill 10-2 Brungle Pride [24]
Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Belmont 5-2, 7-9
Eagle Farm 6-6
Gold Coast 6-1
Moonee Valley 4-1
Morphettville 4-1
(* Belmont updated *)
Comments: 1/14 for June so believing in an improvement is obviously an article of faith! Three meetings abandoned today. I cannot remember that ever happening before. Belmont 6-3 Beat The Storm seems an appropriate selection given how the weather is around the place. He's parked just behind them at his last two and come with strong runs to win clearly. From the inside gate he should get a perfect run and I'd declare him a special except for the way we're going. Morphettville 6-7 Saratoga Demon has won a couple in a row so connections have decided to sneak him into the city. This is not much of a race so he should be a good chance. Swan Hill 6-5 Kenbest looks well placed first up in this race. He was narrowly beaten in a similar event first up last time and should be nice e/w odds today. Swan Hill 10-2 Brungle Pride goes OK and seems pretty well placed here, also. He's been up for a long time but always seems to put in solid performances so he should go close.
Black Book: I commented last time that Belmont 2-1 Chachi would have been improved by a spell and that turned out to be correct when he won powerfully first up. He looks like one of those WA horses that end up with 5 wins from 10 starts so we can keep following.

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])
Swan Hill 4-10 Gracie [24]
Swan Hill 5-2 Vainsky [24]
Swan Hill 8-7 The Roman [24]
Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Canberra 2-1
Comments: Meetings abandoned from one end of the east coast to the other, demonstrating that the drought has ended. Welcome back, La Nina. Swan Hill has always been a good track for us, as I've commented before, so let's hope we get a result there today from our three picks. 4-10 Gracie goes fast and has finished close enough to them to be considered a chance in this. Drawing 11 from the 1000m doesn't matter too much at this big track so she should be somewhere near the lead 200m out. 5-2 Vainsky plummets in class from recent assignments and looks to have a terrific e/w chance. His record on wet tracks doesn't look that good but they're all in much harder races so it's best to overlook that fact. 8-7 The Roman was beaten 10+ lengths at his first two starts before leading all of the way to win at Ballarat when stepping up to a mile. He then tried to lead all of the way when beaten 10L in Class 1 company last time. That was on a slow track so maybe it didn't help but he's by Umatilla and they're normally good in the wet so I'd want to see $15+ to have a go on this guy.

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Muswellbrook 2-1
Warrnambool 1-8, 2-1, 3-1, 3-2, 6-6
Comments: POOMAs are now at their worst ever level and we've started with a battering in June with only 1/10 returning $3.60. Roger promises that he hasn't been backing them so I can only hope that we go on a winning run sometime soon! Townsville 8-2 Hedz goes OK but I don't think that the 32 day break is going to be in his favour so will avoid him, especially at the short price.

Northam 2-13 Cagey Lady [23]
Northam 6-3 Battleship [23]
Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Wagga 4-1, 8-1
(* Updates at Northam later on - UPDATED *)
Comments: Bairnsdale 4-9 Sovereign Arch is coming out of stronger races and the step up in trip will suit. Bairnsdale 6-1 Oberoi has a consistent record from six starts with his only bad performances coming on a couple of wet tracks so he looks well suited here. Bairnsdale 9-2 Kentucky Wildcat doesn't win out of turn but this is the easiest race he's been in for a while and if he can overcome his wide gate then he should go close. Northam 6-3 Battleship won here first up and then ran an OK race in town. Silent Hero beat him home that day and meets him better here so our pick might struggle to reverse the result, though they look a strong quinella chance.

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])
Donald 4-1 Starkron [12]
Donald 5-2 Bon Henri [24]
Donald 6-4 Himstedt [24]
Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Donald 2-6, 3-10, 3-14
Kalgoorlie 1-4
Launceston 1-6, 8-1
Mornington 1-1, 1-2, 5-14
Sunshine Coast 3-17
Comments: Donald 4-1 Starkron has a couple of narrow wins from his three starts and looks a fair chance today. His one failure was on a heavy track, so he might be a typical General Nediym in that regard and given it's heavy today I'll want better odds than will be on offer, I suspect. Donald 5-2 Bon Henri is a front-running, in and out type that goes well at this trip, is 1/1 at the track but doesn't look suited on the heavy track. He's at short odds overnight but I'd want to see e/w odds to have a go. Donald 6-4 Himstedt is really good on a wet track and is in solid form so looks a pretty good chance.
Black Book: Wellington 7-2 Green Fellas is very fast horse with a good record and looks well suited here first up.

POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])
Belmont 7-14 Is Amazing [23]
Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Belmont 1-1, 4-3
Gold Coast 4-1, 8-9
Sandown 4-2, 7-4
Toowoomba 3-7
Comments: Belmont 7-14 Is Amazing is a really nice mare that always puts in, as demonstrated by her 11 wins from 29 starts and $330K prizemoney. Looks really well placed and we should get nice e/w odds.
Black Book: Eagle Farm 3-12 Scenic Silver is 2/4 since going into the BB and we're with him until he's had 10 starts at which point I'll reassess. He's drawn the car park today and races forward so might be up against it a bit. Sandown 3-3 Transferral flogged them at his first jumps start and Warrnambool and will be a fair chance today if he stands up. Sandown 4-3 Hasta Manana is a jumping star in the making, winning his three starts by a collective 27 lengths. It'll be a good clash with the topweight.
Belmont 7-14 Is Amazing [23]

SELECTIONS - 1 June 2007
POOMA selections (Location Race#-TAB# Horse [system/s])
Queanbeyan 3-5 Bournda See [10]
Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):
Penola 7-1, 8-9
Seymour 1-7
Comments: I really thought we could get all three home yesterday and finished with a duck egg. Welcome to racing. Queanbeyan 3-5 Bournda See was beaten less than 3L in the Queanbeyan Thunderbolt last time. Looks well placed here and should be a fair chance.
Black Book: Sunshine Coast 4-5 Zedeshee has a heap of speed and is 2/2 over this course. Gets tired late so wouldn't want to have anything too close to him over the last furlong.
