SELECTIONS - 13 April 2005

Bunbury 1-1 Brave Jester gets his chance to break through here after some consistent runs. Will sit right on the pace and be hard to run down.

Bunbury 2-11 The Gray Bear let us down in the last hop last time but we'll stick with him to go one better here. Danger looks to be Fred Conquistador.

Bunbury 3-3 Green Grenade is first up in this but it really is a weaker field than he's been running around against. I expect him to get back and be charging late.

Bunbury 4-1 Orage won nicely at York last time at his 2nd start. Has Paul Harvey on board and is improving. Danger looks to be Explosive Halo.

Ipswich 3-1 Mister Raw drops in grade from his last start at Doomben where he was on the pace for most of the race before being beaten 3.8L behind the Hawkes' runner, Cupboard. Has drawn 2 so will be on the speed today and Ellie Dredge takes her claim to get him into the race on the limit weight.

Sandown 3-4 Perpugilliam has won both her starts and with any sort of natural improvement during her spell she'll be awfully hard to beat in this. She's been very strong at the end of both wins and I expect she'll go very close. $5 at the morning line seems like good odds. Obvious danger is Cool And Composed.

Strathalbyn 1-4 Starbucks has had two starts over the hurdles for a good 2nd at his first go and a strong run at Oakbank. Has more flat ability than most of these so if he's learned anything about jumping then he should be hard to beat.

Strathalbyn 8-10 Karadoc Avenue found the class a bit strong and distance too far at Cheltenham last time. He's drawn the inside barrier so should get a nice run and give us a big sight at good odds.

Warwick Farm 1-5 Catbird Khan started favourite over 900m at Newcastle last time and was beaten a fair way by Najwa. The step up to 1200m will suit this one much better.

Warwick Farm 2-5 Stylish Bow has to overcome the drop in distance and a significant competitor in the unbeaten Nyavirezi. I can see the latter horse leading with Stylish Bow camped just off her and I expect she'll run past her in the straight.

Warwick Farm 5-6 Starbeel was 4/1 and not beaten far first up over an unsuitable distance. Being a Zabeel the step up to 1600m will suit perfectly. Warm Ride has been running on well over shorter distances so you'd think the mile would suit however he's by Catbird and they're not necessarily best at this trip and beyond.
