Wyong 1-14

Today: This. does. not. look. like. a. good. day. for. a. punt. Overcast and slow at Doomben. Showery and dead at both Werribee and Cheltenham (* now downgraded to slow). The thing that can't be allowed for is the impact of more rain. I'm sure we've all had the experience of picking out a good chance only to see the heavens open an hour before its race, ruining its hopes. A few that look to have chances at Werribee include 4-10 Angkhasa, 5-2 Mr Big, 5-3 Savlate, 6-3 Solaride and 6-9 Partiva. I've picked out Doomben 6-3 Pentup at his last two starts and have commented that he will be able to step up in class and win again. However, he's by my favourite sire, Pientre Celebre, whose progeny don't tend to handle wet tracks so I'd be quite careful about this one today. The meeting at Wyong looks too hard and I've never been able to get much of a handle on South Australian racing and the POOMAs overall had a shocking record there until I started focusing on Victoria only. If someone can tell me the secret to betting in SA then I'd appreciate it.

Yesterday: Southern Courage won nicely first up at 1900m yesterday for new trainer, Mick Price. He was well backed and started at $4 favourite with the bookies. It's hard to tell how far he can go but I'd be surprised if he couldn't be competitive in city midweek grade. In the first race Buan started at $1.65 with the bookies and $1.40 on the TAB (against my price of $2.80) and was comfortably beaten into 3rd place. He has been getting home from back in the field but against weak company and he really one-batted yesterday. I reckon he is not long for the Moody stable. I had a terrific First4 result yesterday when I took a $48 F4 on Mackay R5 because I thought the favourite would win and that the 2nd and 3rd favourites were not correct so there was some value to be had. Tea Moss romped in beating $16, $17 and $47 shots. On NSW TAB it paid around $4,500 but I got the UniTAB result at over $14,000. Was one of those surprise dividends that one gets once every blue moon.

POOMAs: There were no POOMA selections yesterday.
