Canterbury 6-5
Today: Six meetings today and I can't get excited about any of them. Werribee is normally a really good place to have a bet, as the form tends to be really clear. However that isn't the case today. For example, in race 1 the favourite is 2-Industrious, which will go around odds on but there are no formlines that allow me to compare the relative qualities of the runners in spite of the fact that Industrious comes out of a Group 3 race. Dance On Board has been strong to the line in his two runs, Far Horizons gets in with no weight though was a bit one paced last time, Landsdown Road showed speed and was pretty good at Echuca and who knows how good Narredson is? Why would anyone want to take odds on in those circumstances? 2-7 Packing Success was pretty good in a strong race last time and is on the up. Leading jockey, Craig Williams, is on board for his brother, Damien, and I think it's probably the best chance today. The only other one I might have an interest in is Townsville 7-9 Stricty Smart, as it's a WFA race and he meets his rivals much better at the weights at a track where he's won 11 from 19. He's been a terrific performer. Not many horses win 25 from 54 regardless of where they race. Checking my database it appears that he's the only one racing in Australia at present (that turns up at TAB meetings, which is what I can check) so it's a rare thing.
Yesterday: In spite of Yappa getting rolled as an odds on favourite the SSY form held up very well with the wins of Zuna and Bellini Rose. I had a real crack at her, as the race was always going to be run at a good tempo with Allenby's Mate out front, which allowed her to zoom home over the top of them. The others I mentioned, Grandiloquent and Dothisdothat both saluted also so it was a good day.
POOMAs: Well, Yappa made us look bad when he managed to get himself beaten into 3rd spot with the margin being a wart by a wart. He got his head up and rolled about in the straight in the manner of a horse that's feeling his pins. I'll watch the replay and see whether that's the case.
