SELECTIONS - 2 October 2006

POOMA selections:

Bairnsdale 5-3 Amici Forever

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Bairnsdale 1-12, 3-14
Eagle Farm 6-1, 7-2, 8-8
Victoria Park 6-5, 6-10
Warwick Farm 2-1

Today: Bairnsdale 2-8 Pulse Maker has the SSY form that we're following, finishing 7th of 10 behind Suspects last time. He was average that day and would only be a rough chance at best. A couple of selections come from one of my favourite systems, which is trundling along at 60%+ strike rate. Bairnsdale 5-3 Amici Forever ran a stinker last time in Class 2 company last time when beaten 8L after showing little dash off a strong pace. However, there looks to be no pace in this race and Mark Flaherty should be able to dictate terms to suit. First Cru looks the obvious danger. The other selection is Eagle Farm 7-2 Sovereign Dream, which is going to start around $1.50 – too short for me. 6-1 Craiglea Cowboy comes from my all time favourite system, which doesn't have many selections since going live on 28/10/04 but is 28/55 at 118% profit. He doesn't look to have the form to win but this system contines to surprise. Shaun Dwyer has one in the last there, 8-8 Obesure, which looks well placed even if he is jumping a couple of grades. Up at Warwick Farm 2-1 Coco Roca is listed as a $2.50 favourite and if you can get that then I suggest you've got nearly $1 worth of value. All she needs to do is run up to her last two runs to take this out. Little Sai Wan might be the quinella horse in that race. Victoria Park is a rotten place to bet though the two selections above appear to have a chance even if it is over the 1000m lottery course. I see that the big, grey Stargazer gelding, Selsley, is topweight in race 6. I like horse because he's so honest. He drops in grade and will be suited by the long run home, as he finishes on from back in the field as a rule.

Yesterday: Sundays are not much of a day in general and there's not much I saw that was worth following. If you followed all of the Swan Hill and Coleraine tips then you finished ahead but it was generally tough going. At Sandown, Permaiscuous won with contempt showing that she's much better than a Sunday race. Another showing contempt was Siamun in winning the mile and a half race. He was going to win as far out as the 2399m mark and is well up to a better race. Valkyrie Diva is another better than Sunday class but not up to Listed grade so the fact that she's 7 from 13 shows that she's been very well placed in her career. Professional Lady boxed on well in that race with her weight also. The enigmatic Drac's Back overcame difficulty to win in the last few bounds. Who knows how good this horse is? He could sneak into a good race over the carnival with no weight and power over the top of them off a strong pace.

POOMAs: One POOMA selection yesterday for a win with Terang Miracle at Coleraine paying a handy $2.70 on NSW TAB (or a really good $3.30 SP).
