SELECTIONS - 9 August 2006

POOMA selections:

Sandown 3-2 Safari Sunbeam

Non-POOMA selections (and ruffies in red below):

Canterbury 1-3, 5-7, 7-5
Cheltenham 4-11
Doomben 3-2, 5-2, 6-5, 8-3
Sandown 3-11

Lay of the Day: Cheltenham 9-9 The Collector $2.60. This lightly raced 6YO is unlucky to still be a maiden having run 2nd at his last 4 starts. He's drawn 16 of 16 today and that might make it too hard for him [LOTD 3 from 4]

Today: Midweek city meetings around the country bring some much needed quality to what has been served up over the last few days. At Sandown, 3-2 Safari Sunbeam is first up for the in-form Mick Price stable. 2 of her 3 wins have come when fresh and both at Sandown, one at the Lakeside course and one at today's Hillside course. If she's anywhere near right then she should make it 3 from 3 first up. 11-Honest Prophet from the Moody-Nolen juggernaut looks like the danger.

Yesterday: Was a pretty uninspiring day. Peter Moody's beaten favourite in race 6, Tan Tat Sing, was unlucky to lose and looks to have some scope to reach a higher level. I'd be wary of it in a 2000m midweek race in the city where it gets in on the limit weight.

POOMAs: Express Star won nicely for us at Sale paying $3.90 and continuing a good recent run for POOMA selections.

LOTD: The Lay of the Day, Cruiser Loser, lived up to his name by Cruising along at the back of the field in the 2nd at Rockhampton, cruised on the corner and cruised all the way up the straight to clock in dead last. For a lay of the day, they don't come any better than that.
