Murtoa 6-1 Questjeune
Non-POOMA selections:
Darwin 2-1, 4-5, 8-5
Forbes 7-2
Murtoa 4-7, 5-2, 5-6, 8-7
As usual, ruffies in red.
Lay of the Day: Murtoa 1-5 Gem Of The Hills ($2 morning line) resumes from a spell at her 4th start. I like Game Serena in this race to beat her. [LOTD 1 from 2]
Today: I think that there are some good betting opportunities out there today. Forbes 6-1 Waterbindoor is very well placed after a good first up run. If you're wondering where Forbes is, it's about 400km west of Sydney in the same region as Dubbo and Gilgandra. It's Darwin Cup day way up north. They get a crowd of 20,000 which is pretty amazing. Apparently, at their carnival ball on Saturday night they had 2,000 people turn up to the event - held outdoors, of course. 2-1 Getting Lucky only has 63.5kg so his price will be good. 8-5 Barraba Sun won well last time and I expect a repeat dose here. He'll be my standout in the quaddie up there. In the Cup, I like 8-Nozi to beat 9-Not Abandoned. Nozi has won his only two starts in Darwin and I think he'll extend his sequence to three.
Yesterday: The horse I stood out in the first leg of the quaddie at Werribee managed to run 2nd after getting to the front and looking the winner. Of course, I got the rest of the legs and it paid over $2K and would have paid even more with my horse. Them's the breaks. In contrast, I had a 3x3x3x4 quaddie at Launceston, got the first leg and failed to get a placegetter in the other three! That takes some doing. Reminds me of the day about 5 years ago when I had 6 horses in the last leg of a 9 horse field at Warwick Farm. All of the quaddies were paying over $20K with half of them being the whole pool at $40K. I went down to watch the race and had $200 on the horse that I thought might be a threat to my six. In an amazing piece of selection accuracy, the three horses I did not have ran the trifecta. Fortunately, the one I backed won and paid $11 but I still wasn't all that happy.
POOMAs: There were no POOMAs yesterday
LOTD: The Lay of the Day, Hot Cymbal, in spite of having everything against him actually managed to win thus wrecking my perfect 100% record (from one previous selection).
