Non-POOMA selections:
Casterton 1-6
Gundagai 4-2, 4-13
Kalgoorlie 1-8
Werribee 2-13
As usual, ruffies in red.
Lay of the Day: Sunshine Coast 6-2 Hot Cymbal $2.60. A very tough list of horses to try and pot today, as all of the sub-$3 runners have real chances. Hot Cymbal won nicely last time at Eagle Farm but I think he's up against it today at a track at which he's never won from 5 tries. He doesn't tend to win two in a row and the 4kg weight rise means he meets horses like Defecting Playboy 3.5kg worse for beating him home by a length when running 4th on July 8.
Yesterday: Gee, Minson made a mug of my Bletchingly Stks analysis yesterday. I'd heard on the radio in the morning how much he'd grown but when I saw him in the parade ring I was quite surprised at what a terrific individual he's turned into. Rather than going head to head with Danerich it was he, not Super Elegant, that stalked the leader to the corner at which point he took off, giving nothing behind him a chance. Anyone who wants to back Danerich in any of these races can do so with me. He has not come back anywhere near his top form. Super Elegant raced well below his last run and, given the extent of the injury he has come back from, I'd suggest that he's probably to be avoided, especially on firm tracks.
POOMAs: Of the POOMA selections, we finished one from three at a small profit depending on which TAB you bet with. Rustia was never in the race and didn't finish off at all. Kenny's Law lobbed at around $3 and Lasting Request was ridden with less urgency than needed before flashing home late for 2nd.
LOTD: The Lay of the Day, Belle Bizarre, duly failed to win. She was 3 and 4 deep all of the way, made a short dash into the straight but dropped off quickly after that in a manner that must have concerned her connections.
