Today: Gee, it's a bad day to have a bet. One of the worst I can remember in recent times, actually. The meetings at all four codes are pretty crappy. Nothing stands out at Seymour though Rustic Fire might run well in the last race there. If there is a best bet of the day then it's probably Hillsong in the first race at Ipswich. Shaun Dwyer looks to have a strong hand there today at a track at which he has a really good record.
Yesterday: The meetings at Werribee nearly always create strong formlines and winners can go into town and win again. De Beaumont knocked off our POOMA selection, Aurelio, in the first race and there was a fair gap back to 3rd showing that the winner is not a bad horse. I don't know how far he can go, as the runner up is a tad weak, but it wouldn't surprise me at all to see him do well as he goes through the grades. Another first starter to impress was Yoobabe in race 2. She sprung to the lead from her gate 3, was taken on to the turn, accelerated really impressively and won by a space. She's pretty good. I backed against short price favourite, Globalism, in the 2000m Class 2 race, as I thought he hadn't showed much fight at the end of his races even though he got away with a Maiden. I don't reckon he'll stay with Lloyd Williams for too long. It only won at Taree but I reckon that one of my old trainers, Mack Griffith, might have a handy 2YO in Sutton Friend. It was under a double, triple full nelson before the corner, sprinted sharply when clear and then cruised to the line under no pressure to win by 2.5L. He could probably get away with something stronger.
POOMAs: Two selections yesterday for two 2nds. I mentioned that Aurelio "has been a tad weak at the end of those stronger races" and he managed to be a tad weak at the end of a weaker race when getting picked up near the line yesterday. Ulysses was given a perfect run by Craig Williams who got him three back on the fence early in the Werribee Cup, settled him down and brought him home for a good 2nd at each way odds.
